Eighty years ago today, a meeting took place in Chicago which produced a document that is the starting point for flying as we know it today. The Chicago Convention gave birth to the International Civil Aviation Organization which spurned global commercial aviation and connected the world in ways that could scarcely have been imagined in 1944. In Europe alone in 2023 there were: 🛫 7.9 million commercial flights 👥 988 million passengers who connected across Europe and with the rest of the world In Europe aviation generates: 💹nearly 3 millions direct jobs 📈over €260 billion in GDP Aviation has become crucial for moving people, goods and services across Europe and the rest of the world. At A4E we'll continue to work for an airline industry that is connected, competitive and more sustainable.

Willie Walsh goes through the pressing issues of #aviation in #Europe and shares his views on regulation, consolidation, sustainable aviation fuel and Single European Sky. "Europe may take a view that the solution is to stop people flying, but the rest of the world is not thinking that way. The rest of the world is thinking: we want the massive socio-economic benefit that aviation has provided to Europe, and we deserve it. And you can’t argue against that" added IATA's Director General.
