This was an interesting discussion. Some key takeaways: 1. African giving is embedded in everyday life; 2. It is values driven; 3. We have to own & champion our narrative; 4. It can be difficult to quantify or measure noting that time or knowledge among others are what is given. Truly inspirational webinar, thanks to GivingTuesday & TrustAfrica, that we need to continue.

Honoring Truth and Reconciliation Day: A Call to Learn and Act Today, on Truth and Reconciliation Day, we pause to remember, reflect, and honor the survivors of residential schools and the countless lives impacted by the legacy of colonialism. This day isn’t just about remembering—it’s about committing to real, meaningful action. Each of us has a role to play in reconciliation, and while it can start with learning, it doesn’t have to end there. Whether you're attending an event, reading a book by an Indigenous author, or engaging in conversations that foster understanding and respect, you are making a difference. But we can do more. Let’s consider more creative ways to contribute: 🔸 Support Indigenous Artists and Businesses: Invest in Indigenous-owned businesses, purchase art from Indigenous creators, and celebrate their contributions to our society. 🔸 Volunteer or Donate: Offer your time or resources to Indigenous-led organizations. 🔸 Advocate for Change: Use your voice and platform to amplify Indigenous perspectives and calls for justice. Every step matters. Reconciliation is an ongoing journey, and by educating ourselves, supporting Indigenous voices, and actively participating in initiatives, we are building a future grounded in respect and understanding. Today, I encourage you to take one action—big or small—that demonstrates your commitment to reconciliation. Let’s move beyond words and into action, creating a legacy of equity and justice that future generations will look back on with pride. Together we can build a kinder, caring, more compassionate world for all ❤️ #TruthAndReconciliationDay #EveryChildMatters #IndigenousVoices #TakeAction

On this National Day for #TruthandReconciliation, we reaffirm our commitment to the ongoing journey of truth, reconciliation, and healing with #Indigenous communities. #TruthandReconciliationDay and Orange Shirt Day, is a day for reflection, learning, and taking meaningful action toward understanding the truths of #Canada’s history. 🍁 On this day, we encourage everyone to take steps toward reconciliation by: 💡 Educating - Learning about the painful legacy of residential schools. Watching documentaries like the National Film Board’s We Were Children can be a powerful way to understand these stories. 🦻 Listening - Hearing directly from Indigenous voices about their experiences and perspectives. 👐 Supporting - Whether through donations or participating in Indigenous community events, there are many ways to help. 💭 Reflecting - Taking time to think about how we can all work together toward healing and a brighter future. Reconciliation isn’t just a moment, it’s a lifelong journey. Today, we recommit to walking this path with humility, respect, and a dedication to learning. 🧡 #truth #reconciliation #everychildmatters #indigenoushistory #educationisthenewbuffalo #learningandaction #supportindigenouscommunities #calgaryblackchambers

🗳️Boosting Philanthropic Support for Democracy! Earlier this year, nearly 200 donors and philanthropic organizations joined the Democracy Fund's All by April campaign, moving over $140 million in grants to ensure free, fair, and representative elections ahead of time. 🚀 Building on this momentum, Democracy Fund recently launched the "Election Day to Every Day" campaign. This initiative pushes for early and sustained election resource commitments for 2025, aiming to eliminate the traditional funding fluctuations of election cycles. Key Commitments: 📅 Start Planning Now: Confirm your 2025 democracy budget now. Don’t wait to develop a plan next year. 🌉 Bridge Funding: Offer bridge funding to grantees who are building long-term sustainable community power, move up payments to Q1, or let grantees know if you’ll be renewing support in the new year. 🤝 Multi-Year Support: Provide multi-year support, whenever possible, so that organizations can continue building toward a long-term vision of a more inclusive multiracial democracy. 🛡️ Safety & Security: Support the safety and security infrastructure that grantees need in the face of violent threats and the authoritarian playbook. 🔗 Learn more about the campaign and sign on here: https://lnkd.in/g5SbEGXW Together, let’s strengthen our democracy with continuous and proactive support! #Philanthropy #Democracy #ElectionDayEveryDay
