  • Designers: you have until January 25 to nominate your project for a 2025 Wood in Architecture Award. If you haven't already, start preparing your submission: https://lnkd.in/grhgXVnj FAQs Q: Does the project need to be fully completed (not in construction) to be nominated? A: Projects must be fully constructed (by 1/25/25) to meet the submission requirements, but not necessarily occupied. Q: Can we submit a project in more than one category? A: We are no longer segmenting the awards by building category so one submission is sufficient for each project. When completing a nomination, you’ll be prompted with a series of questions asking you to describe how your project meets each of the criteria. You can nominate as many qualifying projects as you wish. • FREE RESOURCE: How to Successfully Cost Manage a Mass Timber Project Get your copy: https://lnkd.in/d967urNJ A determining factor in the success of a mass timber project—and whether it goes forward at all—is the general contractor’s ability to provide informed cost estimates from the earliest stage of design. However, unlike other materials, there isn’t a hundred years of tradition and shared experience to guide budgeting, cost management, and competitive procurement, or readily available cost benchmarking. This paper is intended to bridge that gap with guidance for minimizing whole project costs and maximizing the value of mass timber projects. It has been written with an emphasis on cross-laminated timber (CLT) and glue-laminated timber (glulam), but applies generally to all mass timber materials. Topics are covered within a framework of key steps that can help you more confidently cost-plan your next wood building.

  • A guide to mass timber building insurance in the U.S. The Mass Timber Insurance Playbook – U.S. Edition (https://ow.ly/MF9k50Uq09o) gives developers, design/construction professionals, and insurers a comprehensive framework for working together to resolve challenges that impact the insurability of mass timber buildings, making it easier for teams to bring more of these projects to fruition. The playbook provides guidance for all parties on how to manage risk and secure adequate insurance coverage for both the construction and operation of mass timber buildings. The perspectives of the owner, lenders, architect, design team, builder, manufacturer, fabricator, and insurers are often different (and sometimes conflicting), resulting in contractual requirements, definitions, and actions that might seem unnecessary to some but must be understood and negotiated.
