  • Lowell resident Jennifer Howell was honored this week by Lowell city officials and WinnDevelopment executives for being the first small business owner to open their doors in the city's Hamilton Canal Innovation District, a special development zone created to encourage economic growth in the downtown area. The owner of Sutra Studio, a community-focused yoga studio with a variety of holistic wellness services, Ms. Howell had feared she would be forced to move out of Lowell until she found ground-floor commercial space in Winn's award-winning 201 Canal apartment community. Winn staff worked with her to customize the space for the needs of her clientele. Joining Ms. Howell to cut the ribbon on the new home for Sutra Studio were WinnDevelopment Senior Managing Director Meade Curtis, Lowell Assistant City Manager Shawn Machado and City Councilor Wayne Jeness. • WinnCompanies today announced the completion of renovations at West Village Apartments, a community of 10 historic, low-income apartment buildings in downtown Buffalo, NY. The $24.5 million renovation project modernized the properties and preserved all 135 units as affordable housing for 40 years. The project created the community’s first accessible apartments, modifying 10 units to serve residents with physical, audio and/or visual disabilities. In addition, 21 apartments are now designated as veterans’ preference units with supportive services available through an on-site office staffed by Solider On, a private nonprofit committed to ending veteran homelessness. Register for December's Ask Mayfield Anything: Advanced Control to Bank Microgrid Savings Electrical systems within buildings are becoming increasingly more intelligent and complex. The days of adding solar and storage systems to simply offset energy consumption are on their way out. To truly take advantage of these smart loads and resources, they must be controlled concurrently for optimal efficiency and economic benefits. Controlling all key building loads and energy sources with one solution has many advantages, but it has not historically been possible. Elexity has developed an EMS to integrate the management of energy storage, EV chargers, HVAC, PV, and other loads to automate energy savings and maximize grid revenues. In this edition of Ask Mayfield Anything, Ryan Mayfield will be joined by Stu Statman, the CTO of Elexity, to discuss a new EMS solution applicable to many microgrid applications. Adarsh Ajithkumar, the Project Manager with WinnCompanies, will also share lessons from how they plan to utilize this product to solve some challenges in developing a microgrid in a historic building in Boston. Join us on December 17 at noon PT to learn about a new way of considering energy management and control for microgrid systems of the future. Register today and submit questions in advance! 👇 https://lnkd.in/gHwRmJdq #microgridsystems #microgridcontrols #ESS #SolarEngineering
