The main objective of the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board is to control all gambling, betting and activities incidental thereto in the Province subject to the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Act, 1996, and any policy determinations of the Executive Council relating to the size, nature and implementation of the industry.

November is designated as Responsible Gambling Month in South Africa, and in November 2023, the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board hosted the Responsible Gambling Summit to mark this occasion. The Summit aimed to promote safer gambling by bringing together industry leaders, with a focus on driving positive change through meaningful discussions, research, and knowledge sharing. The event saw a diverse range of delegates, including representatives from the Western Cape Provincial Government, members of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament, Gambling and Betting Licence Holders licensed by the WCGRB, the National Gambling Board South Africa, Provincial Gambling Boards, The South African Responsible Gambling Foundation, the South African Bookmakers’ Association, The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa, South African Green Police, Test Laboratories, the South African Gambling Manufacturers Association and members of the public. International delegates included representatives from other African gambling authorities, such as Gambling Authority - Botswana, the Gambling Board of Namibia, and the Lotteries Board of Namibia. I am incredibly proud to announce that the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board was awarded the "Regulator Responsible Gambling Initiative of the Year" at The South African Responsible Gambling Foundation's Responsible Gambling Awards Ceremony held on 1 November 2024! 👏 👏 👏 👏 A heartfelt thank you to The South African Responsible Gambling Foundation for this incredible recognition!
