On 13/8/2024, African Organisation for Standardisation - ARSO SG Hermogene Nsengimana hosted Association of Gaming Regulators in Africa and @Betting Control and licencing Board to explore potential collaboration in the harmonisation work of African standards for the Development of the gambling industry in liaison with National stakeholders.

🚨 Continuing the Fight Against Gambling Harm! 🚨 In solidarity with the #InternationalYouthWeek2024, We recently wrapped up a powerful education and awareness session at the midweek tournament held at Ligi Ndogo Sports Ground, Ngong Road. This time, we brought together Ligi Ndogo FC and Mt Kenya Sparks FC along with their spectators, for a meaningful discussion aimed at tackling the serious issue of gambling among young athletes. Gambling among young players derails their promising careers and destroys the integrity of our sports through match-fixing, compromising both their future and the fairness of the game. Through one-on-one interactions with players and targeted awareness sessions, we tackled the harsh realities of gambling—especially how it’s normalized as part of the sports culture. We emphasized the financial pitfalls and how gambling can derail both careers and education. 🛑 🙌 We successfully raised awareness, secured community support, engaged deeply with participants, and strengthened strategic partnerships, all of which reaffirmed the critical need for ongoing education on gambling harm. A huge thank you to our partners USAID, YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa, and Kenyatta University through the #YaliTransformationFund for making this event possible and for helping us reach even more young athletes. 🚨 Tahadhari Athari Za Kamari Campaign: Football Edition! 🚨 We are thrilled to share the successful launch of our Tahadhari Athari Za Kamari campaign at the International Youth Week Tournament at Githurai Sports Grounds on Sunday 4th August 2024. We interacted with the football teams and organized a workshop at the Youth Empowerment Social Hall next to the grounds. We had four local football teams: Real Maono FC, Green Army, Githurai All Stars, and Kieleweke FC. ⚽️🎉 Highlights from our sessions: 🔹 Education and Awareness: We conducted engaging sessions to educate players about the dangers of gambling and its potential harm, particularly on young sportspeople who are often among the most vulnerable. 🔹 Real-Life Experiences: Players shared their personal stories, shedding light on the real-life impact of gambling on their lives and careers. The coach of Real Maono FC Victor Van emphasized the urgency of our mission in other tournaments in Nairobi. 🔹 Available Support: We informed the teams about the resources and support available for those struggling with gambling addiction, encouraging a collective effort to seek help and support each other. 🔹 Spreading the Message: We stressed that sports do not need to go hand in hand with gambling. Our campaign aims to spread this crucial message to the youth, promoting healthier and more positive engagements with sports.
