📢 Our new West Health-Gallup survey reveals most Americans are worried about hidden healthcare fees and want Congress to take action on the issue. • More than half (52%) worry about affording the cost of hidden healthcare fees, or facility fees added by hospitals to charges for routine medical services and care provided at outpatient clinics and medical offices they own. • More than 70% agree that hospitals and health systems should be required to charge the same price for the same services, regardless of where they are delivered. • 4 out of 5 support federal legislation to limit when and how much hospital systems can charge in facility fees. 👉 Read our press release for more details on the survey: https://bit.ly/4fT01AB 👉 Check out our new infographic: https://lnkd.in/eHzfSiv9

  • 🚨 PBM reform legislation is in play for the year-end spending package. What do you need to know? 🔹   PBM reform has broad, bipartisan support in Congress, with several bills under consideration (S. 2973, H.R. 5378, H.R. 6283, and H. R. 8261 & H.R.7623). 🔹 If an end-of-year health extenders package comes together, PBMs, drug manufacturers, pharmacists, and advocates will influence the provisions, as well as the FTC’s investigation and congressional health priorities.  🔹 Any consensus on PBM provisions this year will most likely focus on Medicare and Medicaid, versus the commercial insurance market.  🔹 Regardless of any agreements made in the lame duck session, PBM reform is likely to remain a priority issue for policymakers in the future.    💡 Want to stay ahead of the curve? Among the most urgent needs in healthcare today is the development of better, safer ways to care for older adults—a rapidly growing patient population. On Monday, Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Mass General Brigham took an important step forward in meeting this need with the launch of the West Health Accelerator at Mass General Brigham. This bold new initiative is a collaboration among BWH, Mass General Brigham, and the West Health Institute—a medical research organization focused on healthcare and aging—aimed at transforming care for hospitalized seniors throughout the Mass General Brigham system and beyond. More than 100 guests gathered at BWH to celebrate the West Health Accelerator, where they heard about the impact and importance of this unique initiative from Emily Shea, Boston’s Age Strong Commissioner, as well as David F. M. Brown, MD, president, Academic Medical Centers, Mass General Brigham; Anne Klibanski, MD, president and CEO, Mass General Brigham; and Shelley Lyford, CEO and chair, West Health Institute. The event also included a panel discussion led by BWH President Giles W.L. Boland, MD, and featuring BWH clinician-scientists Zara Cooper, MD, MSc, and Rachelle Bernacki, MD, MS, co-directors of the West Health Accelerator, and Tim Lash, West Health Institute president. http://spklr.io/6048xkdq
