To kick off the new year we want to talk about one of the newest additions to the UDRI family. Just over a year ago the Digital Transformation Center at University of Dayton Research Institute was opened. So, what exactly is the function of the DTC? 📢Here are the top 5 things we want you to know about the DTC: 🌐 1. Driving Innovation Across Industry, Government & Academia At the DTC, we’re the “easy button” for collaboration. We bring together critical technologies from industry, the government’s drive for change, and academia’s future workforce to solve complex challenges and create real-world impact. 💻 2. Workforce Development at the Forefront We facilitate rapid upskilling programs, micro-certifications, and experiential learning opportunities that connect students, employers, and non-traditional learners to build a highly skilled tech workforce. 🤝 3. Impact Through Collaboration In our first year, the DTC has sparked $4.5M in new project awards for member companies, created 11 new jobs, and developed cutting-edge projects like Aeroprint—a student-driven drone and 3D printing initiative. 💡 4. A Home for Innovation We’re not just talking about digital transformation; we’re building it. With a growing number of industry members and a state-of-the-art Digital Enterprise Collaboratory, the DTC is shaping the future of tech and innovation. 📈 5. 🎁 This year our STT division coordinated a holiday drive for the local non-profit HTC Dayton (Hannah's Treasure Chest). HTC provides care packages of children’s items to families across 20 Ohio counties. STT enlisted divisions across UDRI to set up collection boxes within multiple offices to make the drive a team effort. The generosity across UDRI did not disappoint. Over 100 items were collected, varying from toys and diapers to blankets and toiletries. Thank you to everyone who donated and volunteered their time to coordinate the drive this holiday season! #UDRI #GivingSeason #HTCDayton #RespectForAll

Today marks Thao Gibson’s 25th Anniversary working at UDRI! Thao is a Senior Research Scientist in our Nonstructural Materials Group. Thao’s research focuses on X-ray computed tomography and the processing and characterization of polymeric composites. Gaining expertise in X-ray computed tomography and composite processing has enabled Thao to make substantial contributions to our research endeavors. We asked Thao some questions about her time at UDRI. Continue reading to learn more and congratulate Thao on this great achievement! Q: What do you enjoy most about your work? I enjoy acquiring new skills and applying them to my research. I also appreciate the opportunity to meet people from diverse backgrounds. Q: How have things changed since you first started with UDRI? So much has changed over the past 25 years. It feels like just yesterday that I joined UDRI, knowing nothing about composites. Through hard work and dedication, I've grown and become an expert in the field, marking a significant transformation in my career. Q: Do you remember your first day at UDRI? I vividly recall my first day at UDRI. Working in the composite group on base at Wright Patterson Air Force Base was quite an experience. My initial cubicle was rather outdated. It took a year and a half to obtain an official Air Force email address. Despite these initial challenges, I adapted to the environment and have remained with the organization for 25 years. 😊 Q: What is it about UDRI that has kept you here for 25 years? The captivating technical challenges, the exciting opportunities to work on diverse projects, and the lifelong friendships I've formed with my colleagues are what have kept me here for 25 years and continue to make my work fulfilling. Q: What is the most valuable lesson that you've learned during your career? The most important lesson I've gained throughout my career is the power of perseverance, the importance of continuous learning, and the necessity of applying knowledge to my research work.
