𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐌 𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐒 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐈𝐃-𝐀𝐓𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐂 𝐓𝐇𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇 𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐀𝐘 𝐍𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 ❄️ As a significant winter storm approaches the Ohio Valley, we’re closely monitoring its impacts across the Mid-Atlantic, expected to persist through late Monday evening. Our forecast remains consistent with previous updates as the heaviest snowfall is still anticipated from the Central Appalachians eastward through Delmarva. In these areas, snowfall totals of 6–10" are expected, with localized amounts potentially exceeding 12". Baltimore, Maryland, sits on the northern edge of this heavy snow band, where accumulations of 7–10" are likely. Snowfall rates may reach or even surpass 1" per hour at times. South of the main snow band, a zone of mixed precipitation is expected, including sleet accumulations ranging from 0.10–0.50"+ and freezing rain causing ice accruals between 0.10–0.25"+. To the north, snowfall totals will taper off gradually. Along the Interstate 80 corridor in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, accumulations are expected to range from 0.5–2"+. #Northeast #MidAtlantic #PAwx #NJwx #MDwx #DEwx #Winter #WinterIsHere #Snow #Snowfall #SnowFighters #SnowPros #Snowplowing #SnowRemoval #SnowAndIce #Ice #Deicing #Brine #Salt #SnowAndIceManagement #Weather #WeatherUpdate

𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓'𝐒 𝐂𝐀𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐏𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐎𝐃𝐄𝐋𝐒 🤔 If you’ve been glued to your computer screen, refreshing your browser with every new model run, you’ve probably noticed some differences in snowfall totals between the HRRR (High-Resolution Rapid Refresh) model and others, and you might be wondering why. Surprisingly, it’s not about the SLR (snow liquid ratio) or how the HRRR handles precipitation types. The explanation is actually pretty straightforward. The HRRR is simply showing a stronger, more organized low-pressure system moving through the Ohio Valley and into the Mid-Atlantic. This results in more robust and consistent moisture transport, which in turn produces higher snowfall totals across a broader area. Are there other contributing factors? Absolutely. But much of the variation you’re seeing comes down to that stronger, more organized low. #Plains #Midwest #OhioValley #MidAtlantic #Winter #WinterIsHere #Snow #Snowfall #SnowFighters #SnowPros #Snowplowing #SnowRemoval #SnowAndIce #Ice #Deicing #Brine #Salt #SnowAndIceManagement #Weather #WeatherUpdate

𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐌 𝐒𝐄𝐓 𝐓𝐎 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐄 𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐘 𝐌𝐈𝐗 𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐎𝐒𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐈𝐃𝐖𝐄𝐒𝐓 ❄️ As a winter storm progresses from the Central Plains through the Mid-Mississippi Valley and into the Ohio Valley and Central Appalachians over the next 24 hours, here’s an updated look at the expected areas of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. A swath of 3–6" of snow, with localized totals approaching or exceeding 8", is anticipated across these regions, driven by intense snowfall rates of 1–2+" per hour. South of the primary snow band, the storm will produce a zone of mixed precipitation, with sleet accumulations ranging from 0.10–0.50+" and freezing rain leading to ice accruals of 0.10–0.25+". Additionally, lake-effect snow is expected to develop on the southern end of Lake Michigan, starting late Sunday evening and potentially persisting through Monday and into Tuesday morning. While not directly tied to the main storm system, this lake-effect snow could deliver a light coating to 2" around the Chicago metro area. #Plains #Midwest #OhioValley #Winter #WinterIsHere #Snow #Snowfall #SnowFighters #SnowPros #Snowplowing #SnowRemoval #SnowAndIce #Ice #Deicing #Brine #Salt #SnowAndIceManagement #Weather #WeatherUpdate

𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐕𝐘 𝐒𝐍𝐎𝐖 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐒 𝐔𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐈𝐍 𝐀𝐂𝐑𝐎𝐒𝐒 𝐎𝐇𝐈𝐎 𝐕𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐘 ☃️ The latest model guidance continues to show disagreement on the exact track of the winter storm as it moves through the Ohio Valley from Sunday morning through midday Monday. Snowfall rates of 1-2"+ per hour are expected to produce a localized band of 8"+ of snow. The NAM and GFS models largely place this heavy snow band along and north of the Ohio River through Indiana and Ohio, while the international models, including the ECMWF and CMC, favor a position along and south of the river. In addition to the heavy snow, the storm will also bring a swath of sleet of .10-.50"+ and ice accruals from freezing rain of .10-.25". These wintry conditions are expected to occur just south of the heavier snow band. The trueWeather team continues to lean toward the more southerly scenario and will closely monitor trends through the first half of the weekend. #Plains #Midwest #OhioValley #Winter #WinterIsHere #Snow #Snowfall #SnowFighters #SnowPros #Snowplowing #SnowRemoval #SnowAndIce #Ice #Deicing #Brine #Salt #SnowAndIceManagement #Weather #WeatherUpdate

𝙇𝙊𝙉𝙂 𝙍𝘼𝙉𝙂𝙀 𝙊𝙐𝙏𝙇𝙊𝙊𝙆 - 1/3 - The below-normal temperatures will be persistent for much of the eastern United States through the middle third of January, with the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic looking at a particularly colder than normal stretch. When it comes to precipitation, nothing jumps off the page as being wetter-than-normal during this time, as most of the Lower 48 will be looking at near or below normal over this period. #warm #warmer #cold #colder #drought #heavyrain #weather #longrange #truewx #truewxlongrange

𝐅𝐀𝐒𝐓-𝐌𝐎𝐕𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐒𝐘𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐌 𝐓𝐎 𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐒𝐍𝐎𝐖 𝐓𝐎 𝐌𝐈𝐃-𝐀𝐓𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐂 ❄️ Before the late weekend/early work week winter storm ever reaches the Mid-Atlantic, a fast-moving system will deliver a quick round of snow to the region through this evening. This system has already made its way into the Upper Ohio Valley, and by later this evening, it'll already be off the East Coast, leaving behind a .5-2" strip of snow from western Pennsylvania through the southeastern part of the state and into portions of northern Maryland, Delaware, and south Jersey. Locally higher snowfall amounts upwards of 2" are certainly possible, particularly in the higher elevations of southwest and southeast Pennsylvania, but most of the elevated totals seen on these graphics will be a result of the ongoing lake-effect snow that will prolong the snow well into Saturday. Snowfall accumulations on paved surfaces are expected with this system, however, pavement temperatures should ward off some of the accumulation when snowfall rates are under .2" per hour. #Northeast #MidAtlantic #PAwx #NJwx #MDwx #DEwx #Winter #WinterIsHere #Snow #Snowfall #SnowFighters #SnowPros #Snowplowing #SnowRemoval #SnowAndIce #Ice #Deicing #Brine #Salt #SnowAndIceManagement #Weather #WeatherUpdate

𝙀𝙉𝙀𝙍𝙂𝙔 𝙐𝙋𝘿𝘼𝙏𝙀 — A surge of Arctic air is set to sweep into the eastern United States, bringing frigid temperatures that are expected to persist through mid-January and potentially extend into the latter part of the month. These well-below-average temperatures will drive an increased demand for gas-weighted heating degree days. 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐕𝐘 𝐒𝐍𝐎𝐖 𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐂𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐋 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐒 𝐓𝐎 𝐌𝐈𝐃-𝐀𝐓𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐂 ❄️ While the exact track of the winter storm remains uncertain, the latest model guidance is beginning to converge on a general path for late this weekend into the early workweek. Current projections suggest the heaviest snow, potentially exceeding 6 inches, will extend from the Central Plains through the Mid-Mississippi and Ohio Valleys and into the Mid-Atlantic. Although this overall track has remained fairly consistent over the past day, there has been a subtle northward shift. Greater clarity is expected later tonight and into Friday morning as the storm's primary energy moves ashore in the Pacific Northwest. Friday morning's model runs will be the first to incorporate data with this energy fully on land, providing a clearer picture of the storm's potential evolution. #Plains #Midwest #OhioValley #MidAtlantic #Winter #WinterIsHere #Snow #Snowfall #SnowFighters #SnowPros #Snowplowing #SnowRemoval #SnowAndIce #Ice #Deicing #Brine #Salt #SnowAndIceManagement #Weather #WeatherUpdate

𝐄𝐗𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐃 𝐁𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐀𝐑𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐂 𝐀𝐈𝐑 𝐆𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐋𝐎𝐖𝐄𝐑 𝟒𝟖 🥶 The United States is about to experience an extended blast of Arctic air, bringing exceptionally cold temperatures through the end of next week. Morning lows below 40°F are expected to reach as far south as the Gulf Coast and deep into the Florida Peninsula. In fact, some southern locations may dip below freezing at times, so keep an eye out for those falling iguanas! 🦎 Meanwhile, subzero temperatures will be commonplace across the Northern Plains and Great Lakes, occasionally spilling into the Mid-Mississippi Valley, Ohio Valley, and interior Northeast. Relief is on the horizon, though. By mid-January, this Arctic chill is expected to retreat northward, giving way to a significantly warmer weather pattern across much of the Lower 48. #Plains #GreatLakes #Midwest #OhioValley #Northeast #NewEngland #Winter #Arctic #ArcticAir #ArcticBlast #Frigid #Cool #Cooler #Cold #Colder
