About us

In 1887, The Salvation Army began serving the people of Wake County by aiding over 500 prisoners in the state penitentiary. The Salvation Army has a corps, rendering church service every Sunday morning. The Salvation Army has a community center, known as the Red Shield Club that provides programs including athletics, summer day camp, and after school programs for children and programs for seniors. We operate a family shelter, one of the largest in Wake County. We provide food and shelter through our various social service programs. We combat human trafficking through our program Project FIGHT - Freeing Individuals Gripped by Human Trafficking. we provide for homeless children and families via our program Project CATCH - Community Action Targeting Children who are Homeless.. We also provide services to those in a disaster via our Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) program. The Salvation Army of Wake County operates quite a few programs and is always in need of volunteers.
