About us
The Nature Conservancy is a global environmental nonprofit working to create a world where people and nature can thrive. We're proud of what we've accomplished since our founding in 1951: The Nature Conservancy has protected more than 117 million acres of land and 5,000 miles of rivers worldwide — and we operate more than 100 marine conservation projects globally. We have more than 1 million members and work in 81 countries and territories, using a collaborative approach that engages local communities, governments, the private sector, and other partners. Guided by science, we create innovative, on-the-ground solutions to our world's toughest challenges so that nature and people can thrive together. We are tackling climate change, conserving lands, waters and oceans at an unprecedented scale, providing food and water sustainably and helping make cities more sustainable. We are more determined than ever to put nature on the world stage at the next COPs and at every moment in between.
As we near the end of 2024, it's time to take stock of what we've accomplished — and note the work we have ahead. The last few months, in particular, have been a busy policy season with the "Rio Trio" of UN COPs taking place beginning in October and wrapping up last week. I was happy to join on the ground for two of these convenings and see the work of my The Nature Conservancy colleagues advancing our priorities for people and nature in Cali, Baku, and Riyadh. So in a year that we had all three COPs, what outcomes did we see for nature? Read my reflections on the Rio Trio and where we need to go in 2025. ⬇️ #RiyadhActionAgenda #RAA #COP16Riyadh #COP16Colombia #COP29Baku
What did the Rio Trio deliver for nature in 2024?

The Biden Administration released a new carbon emissions target for the United States: 61-66% below 2005 levels by 2035. Nature Conservancy CEO Jennifer Morris responds: "It is critical for the U.S. to signal its ambition to other countries in a year when they are all being called up to renew their 5-year climate pledges." "No matter how political winds blow and parties change, The Nature Conservancy will work with policymakers, industry partners, peer organizations and our members to protect nature and people. This includes our efforts to support the Paris Agreement and the goal of achieving a net-zero future." Read our full statement: https://nature.ly/3BGegtD
