Uniting all Americans to ensure wildlife thrive in a rapidly changing world.
About us
As America's largest non-profit conservation organization, the National Wildlife Federation works closely with those who span the social and political spectrum, but who are connected by a common commitment to conservation. Our ability to meet the needs of wildlife is inextricably linked to the over 6 million amazing individuals, groups, organizations and corporations we call our supporters. Our mission is to unite all Americans to ensure wildlife thrive in a rapidly changing world. Through conservation efforts, grassroots actions, education programs, and award-winning publications (including National Wildlife, Ranger Rick, and Ranger Rick Jr.) we connect with people across the nation to safeguard America’s wildlife and wild places.

A Red Fox Is Comin' To Town 🦊 One of the most noticeable characteristics of the red fox is its red fur and fluffy white-tipped tail (much like Santa's hat). 🎅 Their ability to find food, even during the winter, is one reason red foxes are known for being cunning and smart (no, we're not referring to milk and cookies). 🍪 They have such excellent hearing that they can hear their prey digging underground and low-frequency sounds (which may or may not include the sound of Santa's reindeers' sleigh bells). 🔔 #winter #wildlife #nature #redfox #holidays #funfacts #santa

Elders bring the tinder, youths bring the fire. 🔥 Studies show that people across generations are comparably concerned about environmental losses, they may just show it in different ways. Listen or read 📲: https://ow.ly/KJ7550UpqN1

Maintaining a Sandhill Crane Oasis 🏜️🦢 In a New Mexico desert transformed by human activity, wildlife managers create the seasonal wetlands that sandhill cranes rely on each fall and winter. Each fall through winter, tens of thousands of cranes stop at New Mexico’s Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, or at other watery sites within the state’s Middle Rio Grande Valley. The birds rely on these wetlands in the desert for seeds, tubers, small animals such as frogs and other foods. They also need a secure roosting habitat where potential predators can be seen or heard from the safety of the water.
