  • Happy New Year, St. Johns County! We hope you and your family have a safe holiday. If you have plans to celebrate, please do so responsibly and don't drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol. In 2024, St. Johns County law enforcement agencies responded to 200+ crashes involving impaired driving; 14 of those crashes involved serious injuries, and 8 of them resulted in a death. 1,000+ DUI arrests have been made this year as SJSO and partner law enforcement agencies are committed to removing impaired drivers from our roadways. Never get behind the wheel if you are impaired or ride in the vehicle with someone driving under the influence. If you observe an impaired driver, call 911. Check out these resources offering local safe rides: > AAA Tow to Go Program: Call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO for a safe ride > Farah & Farah New Years Eve Safe Ride Home Program: https://lnkd.in/dFnqqR_s Don't be a statistic, plan ahead and ring in 2025 on a good note. Happy New Year!

  • On December 22, 2024, SJSO and Florida Highway Patrol responded to a severe crash detection on 911 pinging on I-95. Upon arrival, Deputy Shumaker encountered a citizen who was in search for his cell phone that had fallen off his vehicle as he got back on the interstate from the rest area. Deputy Shumaker, FHP Troopers, and the citizen walked along the interstate until the phone was found. Great teamwork! #teamsjso

  • This month, Sykes Family Farm donated a generous amount to support the SJSO Explorer program. The Explorers work tirelessly in October to support the farm in helping the parking coordination, cleaning up the property and assisting in day to day operations. Some of the Explorers even assisted in looking for lost children that wandered from parents. SJSO Explorers set an example of discipline, honesty and hard work daily when out in the community. Thank you Sykes Family Farm for your third year of continued support in our SJSO Explorer program!

  • On December 21, 2024, Deputy Riggins conducted a traffic stop for a tag light violation. He made contact with the driver and two passengers who traveled out of state to Florida for the holidays. The passenger explained to Deputy Riggins her son was learning to drive and this was his first time being pulled over. Deputy Riggins assured the driver he did a great job pulling over to the side of the road safely. After giving a verbal warning, Deputy Riggins surprised the family with a $100 Visa gift card thanks to anonymous donors at the Community Foundation for Northeast Florida. Deputy Riggins also thanked them for being the best encounter he has had with anyone in the past week. He then assisted with replacing the bulbs for the tag light so the family could continue on their road trip safely. The driver and passengers were overwhelmed with the gesture and very thankful for Deputy Riggins help. SJSO is thankful for interactions like this one and to be able to give back this holiday season. #TeamSJSO
