Sweden 🇸🇪 ranks as the best country for raising children due to its state-supported childcare model. Introduced in 1975, the National Preschool Act demonstrates how governments can build systems that uplift working families and promote #GenderEquality. 🏫💪 Why it works: 📚 Educational excellence: Preschools are integrated with Sweden’s national curriculum, ensuring a strong foundation for lifelong learning. 🌍 Economic productivity: Parents are entitled to paid leave when they have a child through birth or adoption, encouraging labor market activity of women with preschoolers. 💡 Long-term benefits: Children in daycare experience better health outcomes and fewer mental health issues. 🤝 Social equity: Equal access to quality childcare regardless of income level reduces #inequality among families. 🤔 How can other countries replicate this model? Learn how the country increased access to childcare services 🔻 https://lnkd.in/et8M6YxJ #SDG16Plus #InequalitySolutions

With #COP29 in Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 ending in November, let’s reflect on the lessons from #COP16. The “Cali Fund” and recognition of Indigenous peoples were monumental steps—but there’s more to do. ⛈️ Our blog post, “Billions Left Behind: COP28, Extreme Inequality, and the Incomplete Fight Against Climate Colonialism,” emphasized how #ClimateAction must address #inequality at its core. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gCAwhMnh Together, we can implement policies to: ✅ Bring clean, affordable energy to underserved communities. ✅ Support neighborhoods facing extreme weather and #pollution. ✅ Tackle #inequality to achieve #ClimateJustice and social justice. #SDG16Plus #JustTransition #SDG13 #ActNow #COP29Baku

🇸🇪 Sweden’s National Preschool Act, established in 1975, is a global model for accessible, affordable childcare. This pioneering system has reshaped family support and #GenderEquality over the decades. 🔑 Key highlights: 🏫 Universal childcare for ages 1-6 offers free preschool education at least 15 hours per week. 💸 The parent contribution is capped at SEK 1382 ($135) for the first child, reduced for the second and third child, and free for the fourth. 🕒 Preschools operate with extended hours from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with year-round availability. 🌱 Preschools follow the national curriculum, emphasizing knowledge, development, and learning. Sweden’s investment in childcare—2.3 percent of GDP in 1997—has led to higher maternal employment rates, improvements in health, and a smaller gender gap. 🌍 Read the full policy on our #InequalitySolutions portal ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/et8M6YxJ #SDG16Plus

🧲 What are the different types of #polarization? 🔹 𝗙𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Headlines often report rising polarization but focus on perceived rather than actual divisions in policy preferences, and people commonly overestimate the divide between themselves and those with different views. For example, while 69 percent would sacrifice some income for climate action, only 43 percent believe others would do the same, highlighting a 26 percent misperception gap. 🔹 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: This division is marked by heightened animosity towards the out-group and a stronger affiliation with the in-group. Studies show high perceived tensions between groups like the wealthy and poor, migrants and citizens, and majority and minority ethnic groups. These findings also highlight that societal divisions appear to be strongly linked to issues of identity, inequalities, and perceived differences. 🔹 𝗘𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲-𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: This form of polarization refers to divides between political leaders. According to the @pew-research-center, Democratic and Republican politicians are more ideologically opposed today than in the past 50 years. In #Brazil 🇧🇷 and #Bolivia 🇧🇴, politics has polarized over issues like environmental policies, #corruption, and #ForeignPolicy. When political polarization intensifies, parties may become unwilling to entertain opposing viewpoints, undermining #collaboration and hindering effective governance. 🌍 Explore the global trends of polarization and the emergence of divisive and harmful narratives. ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/er7882tf #SDG16Plus #EqualityForAll #NYUCIC #Inequality #GlobalGovernance

🏗️ How can we deconstruct harmful connections between #masculinity and #violence? 1️⃣ #Education: Through participatory curriculums, young men are taught about #GenderEquality, reducing their likelihood of engaging in partner violence and other forms of aggression. 2️⃣ #MentalHealth support: Initiatives like ABAAD’s Men Center in #Lebanon 🇱🇧 offer support to men and boys, assisting them to challenge patriarchal notions of masculinity and embrace non-violent behavior. 3️⃣ Community-based programs: These efforts can help reduce gang recruitment and promote non-violent expressions of manhood. 🏢 Myth: Only large-scale private actors can provide #housing. 🏘️ Reality: Beyond large-scale private developers, a significant portion of housing in African cities comes from households and smaller-scale providers. These smaller actors often pool resources and build incrementally, making housing more affordable for lower-income groups. 🏗️ For instance, #Tanzania’s informal sector employs more than half of all construction labor. 📥 Download the report to learn about other myths of housing development 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e-YdmVsE #SDG16Plus #SDG11 #HousingJustice #LeaveNoOneBehind
