Cathy Luhman’s life was at a standstill. When breathing, she felt like she was exhaling through a cocktail straw. Cathy had a severe case of tracheobronchomalacia (TBM), a condition that left her unable to care for her grandchildren or enjoy daily activities like walking for exercise. After hearing glowing reviews from a fellow TBM patient, Cathy reached out to Dr. Richard Lazzaro, Chief of Thoracic Surgery, Southern Region, RWJBarnabas Health. She rode from St. Louis to the East Coast for innovative surgery by Dr. Lazzaro and our team that opened up her airway and saved her life. Here’s her story. What a trip aboard the United Airlines holiday Fantasy Flight at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)! Holiday magic was in the air for some of our Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital patients as they boarded the 2024 #fantasyflight to the North Pole this weekend. They were among the children given the gift of joy, laughter and cheer as they sang, laughed, and celebrated alongside Santa and his many elves. A heartfelt thank you to Captain John and the entire United Airlines and Newark Liberty crews for making this unforgettable experience possible❤️ Congratulations on 30 years and counting!
