The House AI Task Force released its final report today. There is a lot to unpack, especially for privacy and cyber. I was honored to appear to explore data privacy and cybersecurity. Thanks Jay Obernolte and Ted Lieu for your leadership on this important topic, along with the full body and awesome staff. At 253 pages, there are recommendations for many facets of AI, including government use, national security, preemption of state laws, and civil liberties. Also important, there are 15 areas listed for future exploration. For privacy (page 31), the report recognizes that Americans have limited recourse for many privacy harms and federal privacy laws could potentially augment state laws. For cyber (mentions throughout), there is recognition that AI can help cyber defenders. As we start a new administration and congress, this will provide a lot to consider.
