White House cyber czar touts regulatory harmonization bill advancing through Congress. Key takeaways: 1. The White House is seeking to harmonize cybersecurity regulations to reduce the compliance burden organizations currently face, potentially improving U.S. cybersecurity strategy's effectiveness by focusing more on defense. 2. The harmonization effort is embodied in a bipartisan bill progressing through Congress, which proposes creating an interagency Harmonization Committee at the Office of the National Cyber Director, responsible for aligning various cybersecurity regulations. 3. The bill emphasizes the need for federal coherence and collaboration among agencies before implementing any updates or new regulations. President-elect Donald Trump’s push for deregulation was a hallmark of his first administration — and he has vowed to not only continue it but take it further. What started as removing two regulations for each new one has increased to removing 10 for every new one. There’s also a plan to create a new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and general sentiment on Capitol Hill hinting at a pursuit of various deregulatory efforts. However, there is a ripe opportunity for greater efficiency: cybersecurity. Now is the time to improve our nation’s cybersecurity posture, free up compliance tasks placed on cybersecurity teams, and promote government efficiency in this area. https://lnkd.in/gQn5NDXw
