About us

Project SkyPower is a CEO-led initiative focused on accelerating take-off for e-SAF in Europe. Our mission is to pave the way for the first large-scale e-SAF plants to reach Final Investment Decision by end 2025. As a cross-value chain initiative, we are coming together to break down the barriers facing e-SAF in Europe, and accelerate progress towards scaling this innovative fuel. With representation from across the e-SAF ecosystem, we will leverage our diverse and deep expertise to collectively and collaboratively overcome the challenges faced by e-SAF and will unify our voice to send a clear message to the whole aviation ecosystem that these fuels are vitally important for our industry’s fight to reach our emissions reductions targets. Project SkyPower has one clear mission: to make e-SAF a commercial reality this decade. With ambitious plans set within tight timelines, our primary focus is on concrete action and swift generation of valuable insights that can deliver our goals. We are led by 13 CEOs from across the aviation and energy value chains, including e-SAF producers, offtakers, airports, technology providers, EPC providers and investors.   • Project SkyPower brings together 14 CEOs and over 40 companies from across the aviation and energy value chains, united in a shared goal: scaling e-SAF production in Europe. This philanthropically funded initiative showcases a diverse coalition of industry leaders, including airlines and airports (Air France-KLM, easyJet, SAS - Scandinavian Airlines, private jet service Victor, and Copenhagen Airports A/S), supply-side companies and e-SAF producers (Arcadia eFuels, Velocys, Topsoe, SkyNRG, and Technip Energies), and financial institutions (ING, Natixis Corporate & Investment Banking, Rockton, and KGAL GmbH & Co.   • We are thrilled to announce that SAS - Scandinavian Airlines joins Project SkyPower's urgent mission to scale e-SAF in Europe this decade, increasing airline representation to over 10% of European passenger aviation. This is more than a milestone—it’s momentum. With less than two years to get first large-scale e-SAF projects to Final Investment Decision (FID), strong airline leadership is essential to scaling e-SAF in time to meet 2030 mandates.   • We have less than two years to bring the first-of-a-kind e-SAF plants to Final Investment Decision (FID) if we want to meet the 2030 regulatory mandates and secure a leadership in the aviation sector.   Meeting these ambitious targets requires immediate action. To comply with regulations and ensure scalable e-SAF production, we need to start construction on large-scale plants by 2026. Achieving FID by the end of next year is critical to staying on track. Delays could put progress toward decarbonising aviation—and achieving crucial climate goals—at risk.   At Project SkyPower, we’re addressing the challenges head-on. Our recent analysis identifies the barriers and the necessary steps to fast-track deployment of e-SAF projects. But urgent action is needed to meet 2030 regulatory mandates and set the industry on track towards critical climate targets by 2050. The new report highlights: 🌍 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗲-𝗦𝗔𝗙 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲, building on decades of expertise in the chemicals and fuels sectors. Europe is positioned to become a technology leader for e-SAF, unlocking a EUR 80+ billion market in Europe by 2050. 💸 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗨𝗥 𝟭𝟱-𝟮𝟱 𝗯𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟯𝟬. Project SkyPower’s economic modelling highlights the investment needs in order to meet regulatory targets in both the EU and UK by 2030, as well as the annual cost gap of EUR 3-5 bn that needs to be bridged, given that e-SAF production is expected to cost 5-8x the price of fossil jet fuel, plus the carbon price of the ETS. 📋𝗔 𝟭𝟬 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗲-𝗦𝗔𝗙 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, centred around four key priorities: ensuring regulatory certainty of mandates, establishing adequate public funding, securing long-term offtake agreements and mitigating first-of-a-kind project risk. Hearing and seeing firsthand how Portugal is not only setting ambitious climate targets—like achieving 81% renewable energy by 2035—but also taking concrete actions to get there. Here’s how Portugal is walking the talk: 💸 Targeted Capital for Deep Tech Innovation: Today’s announcement from the Minister of Economy Pedro Reis revealed a new €100M deep tech fund, with €50M of public funding, aimed at accelerating breakthroughs in clean energy and tech. ✅ Innovation in Permitting: Portugal is pioneering a one-stop-shop permitting process to streamline project approvals, a critical step to attracting investment and accelerating project timelines in the cleantech sector. Project SkyPower ⚡ Supporting Electro-Intensive Industries: With electricity tax reductions in the pipeline, Portugal aims to support its electro-intensive industries and keep them competitive on the global stage—a recommendation echoed in #Mario Draghi’s competitiveness report. 🚀 Growing Venture Capital Ecosystem: Portugal’s VC landscape is vibrant and expanding, with impactful investors like maze impact, #Hcapital and Portugal Ventures driving growth in cleantech entrepreneurs and companies.
