A partnership created to increase economic resilience and opportunities for all in Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester SC
About us
One Region is a Joint Venture Partnership of the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments (BCDCOG), Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce and Charleston Regional Development Alliance formed to strengthen our economy and produce opportunities for all residents by delivering strategies and actions that make a difference in all people’s lives. One Region is currently implementing the “One Region Roadmap: Opportunities for All – Economic Recovery & Resiliency Plan”. Developed as the region emerged from COVID-19, which shed light on the inequities among residents of the tri-county region, The Roadmap outlined strategies within two themes which run through six action areas (listed below) to ensure a resilient and inclusive recovery that enables everyone to thrive. To implement the Roadmap a collaborative model was established where "Lead Agent" organizations have been aligned with each theme or action area and selected to act as a regional convener and lead strategy implementor. Lead Agents of Themes: • Economic Momentum: Increasing H.O.P.E. • Equity: TBD Lead Agents of Action Areas: • Affordability: Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce – Regional Housing Coalition • Global Fluency: Charleston Southern University – Global Charleston • Infrastructure – Digital Divide: Tricounty Cradle to Career, Lowcountry Digital Equity Coalition • Infrastructure – Transportation & Transit: BCDCOG • Innovation & Entrepreneurship: Harbor Entrepreneur Center • Quality of Place: Riley Center for Livable Communities at the College of Charleston • Talent: TBD

Their work includes: 💻 A computer laptop donation program in partnership with Palmetto Goodwill to refurbish surplus computers and put them in the hands of families in need. The strategies within the One Region Roadmap have been put into action by the Lead Agents. As 2024 comes to a close, we'll look back at the resources they have delivered to the community, coalitions that have been built and initiatives now underway. We'll start with Charleston Southern University who founded Global Charleston and works with partners to create a “globally connected region welcoming to multinational businesses and international residents and visitors.” In March 2024, they cut the ribbon on the physical location for Global Charleston on CSU's campus and launched a comprehensive website highlighting critical information and resources for our international community. 🌎 Check out the website: https://lnkd.in/dKdQWhTY 🌎 Learn how you can sponsor and support this effort: https://lnkd.in/d4nZfdC2 🌎 Connect with Stephanie LeVan Executive Director #OneRegion #GlobalFluency #OpportunitiesForAll #StrategyInAction

What defines our region's Quality of Place? How can we measure it? How can we work together regionally to protect, expand and leverage it? One Region's Lead Agent for Quality of Place, The Riley Center for Livable Communities, convened the second meeting of the Local Government Leadership Regional Roundtable yesterday to begin to answer these critical questions. One Region's Lead Agent for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, The Harbor Entrepreneur Center, graciously hosted. Executive Director, Grady Johnson informed attendees about the incredible 36,000 square foot facility and the 89 companies that are now housed there. Town of Mount Pleasant Economic Development Officer, Matt Brady, also addressed attendees about the positive economic outcomes the Town has experienced since The Harbor Entrepreneur Center opened its doors there. Thank you to all involved to bring the region together around these important issues. #OneRegion #QualityOfPlace
