Big news from Gravity , a repeat sponsor at Oilfield Water Connection events, and their leadership team (including repeat speakers at Oilfield Water Connection events CEO Rob Rice and CCO Trace Hight)! Very smart oilfield water guys! Congratulations to Delek US on acquiring ANOTHER great water platform... this deal follows hot on the heels of Delek's recent H2O Midstream acquisition. Delek is fast becoming a name to watch in produced water as they are building out a formidable produced water platform with their deal spree in the space! #producedwater #oilfieldwater #permianbasin #mergersandacquisitions #dealmaking #midstream #watermidstream #water #wastetovalue #watermanagement #pipeline #recycling #waterrecycling #waterreuse https://lnkd.in/ghTmmTzS

There is no one more qualified for this. Congratulations Chris Wright. Actually congratulations America! If you heard Chris's keynote at our May 2023 conference, or know him from the host of ways he positively impacts energy supply, you will surely agree! #betteringhumanlives #leadership #rockstar #producedwater #fracbabyfrac #shale #oilandgas #energy Liberty Energy Read here how President Elect Trump just announced that Chris Wright will join his Administration as United States Secretary of Energy! https://lnkd.in/gnnRMWZn

Can we design markets for water? I am incredibly proud of this paper led by my former postdoc Philip Tominac (now at National Energy Technology Laboratory) in collaboration with Miguel Zamarripa and Markus Drouven, PhD. Some years ago, we came up with the idea of interpreting infrastructure networks and supply chains as coordinated markets (particularly in the context of waste management). We demonstrated that the coordinated market interpretation can help properly price resources, remunerate stakeholders involved, and design incentive mechanisms that foster trading. This work was largely inspired by the success in deploying coordinated electricity markets in the US and around the world. Water is a super valuable and scarce resource that is, surprisingly, not properly priced (there are no formal markets for pricing and trading water). This leads to severe misuse, to distorted perceptions of its actual value, and to ad-hoc processes to incentivize/limit its use. In this work, we demonstrate how a coordinated market setting can be used to price wastewater (aka produced water) in the oil & gas industry and to foster trading that can ultimately lead to higher resource utilization efficiency. I think this type of setting can be used more broadly to price water in urban and agricultural areas. I think market coordination is key when managing critical resources, as such problems involve physical constraints and diverse stakeholders that are interconnected in complex ways. It was a packed house yesterday at the Houstonian when our morning speakers delivered excellent insights on the market trends affecting #producedwater and #watermidstream. Thank you Amanda Martin-Brock for the opening keynote, Kelly Bennett for illuminating water trends with data, Robert Ballantyne for quantifying solids implications, and Thomas Jacob for the shale forecast! Thank you to kick-off sponsor Keystone Clearwater Solutions for making it possible. #oilandgas #energy #water #based #facts #data

Oilfield Water Connection attendees were treated to a tremendous talk at lunch by Doug Sheridan on "Energy Transition Report Card". Doug is one of the #oilandgas industry's foremost independent thinkers and he made a strong and fact-based case for hydrocarbon's place in the long-term energy supply stack. Thank you Doug for the rationality, logic and data you emphasize in your #energy industry research, and thank you also for spending some of your valuable time talking to #producedwater leaders today. Thanks also to Water Lens, LLC and Keith Cole, our lunch sponsor at the The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa. Doug's talk got everyone fired up with a mandate to solve produced water problems, because #permian oil and #shale gas flow assurance are critical to modern civilization!
