  • Earlier this week, the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Dept and the big guy himself 🎅 dropped off hundreds of toys donated from the community to Mission Children's for our pediatric patients to enjoy this holiday season. "We've had a tough fall and to have our kids have some joy, it's really special," said Dr. Ansley Miller, Mission Children's Hospital pediatric medical director. Thank you to our Sheriff's Office crew and Santa for stopping by to spend some time with these little ones and for all the generosity delivered through these gifts! • In September, before the devastation of Hurricane Helene, we were able to celebrate the caregivers across Mission Health at our Show Love Fest! Hundreds showed up to celebrated the contributions of healthcare professionals, including nurses, doctors, hospital staff and first responders. Mission Health CMO Dr. Philip Stahel even rocked the stage! Held at the beloved Carrier Park in Asheville, and led by IHeart Asheville, the festival featured live music, food and beer trucks, the HCA Healthcare Show Love Coffee Truck, Mission Accomplished band and much more! • We are so proud of our work with MANNA FoodBank over the years, including a recent donation from Mission Health and HCA Healthcare of $85,000 to MANNA for post-Helene recovery. This donation will help support MANNA in their holiday food distribution efforts as they continue to link the food industry to partner pantries and other human service organizations to get food to thousands of families’ tables. Along with the donation, Mission Hospital colleagues had some fun collecting canned goods and designing them into a sculpture of a water truck. The creativity of the sculpture won a HCA Healthcare-wide contest! 🏆 Thank you to WLOS ABC 13 for helping promote the incredible work of MANNA. • Thank you to our partners at The Blood Connection for bringing their mobile donation center to Mission Hospital, where our colleagues contributed 40 units of blood, with each of those units having the potential to save up to 3 lives! In a 2023 blog, The Blood Connection shared that “every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion. That number increases in the face of large-scale emergencies… In times of crisis, the importance of a steady blood supply can’t be overstated. Disasters leave communities grappling with a shortage in blood donations, whether due to logistical challenges or an inability for individuals to donate. A proactive approach requires the community’s involvement and commitment to ensuring the available blood supply stays at levels that allow healthcare professionals to care for those affected by the emergencies.” We are so proud that our healthcare colleagues understand the importance of blood donation and always answer the call to join The Blood Connection drives. Especially now, supporting The Blood Connection feels like an opportunity to collectively give back as our region recovers from the recent natural disaster of Hurricane Helene. HCA Healthcare colleagues who missed the Mission Hospital blood drive can visit The Blood Connection Donation Center and log it in our giving and volunteering platform. • Thank you to our Mission Belles and clinical education team who organized a very special dedication event recognizing the Mission Nursing History Collection. This collection is on display in the same day surgery waiting area in the North Tower. Mission Belles are the nursing alumni of Mission Hospital's School of Nursing, a three-year diploma program that was in operation from 1893-1971. These men and women had lovingly given and assembled the collection including uniforms, nursing caps and pins, annuals, textbooks, graduation and capping ceremony photos, and nurse diplomas. If you haven't had a chance to stop by, make sure to check out the collection soon. For more about the Mission Belles Nursing Scholarship, visit: https://bit.ly/4iBCC8t

  • As a part of HCA Healthcare, we are proud to partner with March of Dimes to give all moms and babies a healthier tomorrow. The holiday season can be a joyous time filled with family and social interactions. But for some new moms experiencing postpartum depression, anxiety or even the baby blues, the holidays can be a particularly challenging time. One in eight women struggle with postpartum depression, and one in five experience a mental health condition during pregnancy and the postpartum period. This Wednesday, December 11 at 3 p.m. ET, a new “It Starts With Mom” webinar will premiere about postpartum mental health and the holidays. Watch the episode on March of Dimes’ social channels and at https://bit.ly/4gqs3mU. Maria Zeitz, a psychotherapist and registered nurse with HCA Healthcare affiliate Methodist Healthcare joins the webinar to discuss postpartum mental health and offers advice to support new moms this holiday season. • The Mission Hospital Extracorporeal Life Support team (ECLS) recently received the Gold Level Center of Excellence Award. 👏👏👏 The Excellence in Life Support Award recognizes those centers that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to evidence-based processes and quality measures, staff training and continuing education, patient satisfaction and ongoing clinical care. Several of our CVICU team members celebrated this achievement by donning gold at their recent staff meeting! "This truly is a huge honor and shows the commitment of the team to excellence throughout the ECMO experience. From the patient's initial referral, transfer for cannulation in the CVOR and then landing in the CVICU, it takes a dedicated team to make this process smooth," said ECMO Program Coordinators Ashley Hittel and Katie McCraw. Shout out all the golden stars who contribute to the success of this program! Learn more about everything Mission Hospital has to offer at MissionHospital.org #RaiseTheBar

  • Across Mission Health we are proud to partner with Eblen Charities again this year as their Giving Tuesday sponsor! Our goal is to encourage our colleagues and community to join us in supporting this critical work. Eblen has long provided our community with crisis assistance for essential needs. They have welcomed our teams to join them in collection drives and volunteering, as well as stepping up to help so many people impacted by Hurricane Helene. For these reasons, HCA Healthcare selected Eblen for an additional $75,000 contribution, as part of the $1 million commitment for hurricane relief and recovery. #DYK all HCA Healthcare colleagues, including all of us across Mission Health, have their charitable donations matched by our company giving incentives between $25 - $500 per year to non-profits of their choice? Colleagues can contact MissionCommunity@HCAHealthcare.com to get their questions answered. #GivingTuesday #RaiseTheBar

  • Families at Mission Hospital's NICU have one more reason to be VERY thankful this year. 🦃 🙏 Judy Miranda with Family Support Network of WNC teamed up with Preemies of the Carolinas to generously donate onesies and hats for some of our smallest patients. They helped make this an unforgettable first Thanksgiving for these NICU families. Learn more about specialized NICU care at Mission Health here: https://bit.ly/3OrzHBk #CareLikeFamily
