  • Can powering a million XPUs actually be done? In this video, Loi Nguyen, PhD, EVP and GM of Optical at Marvell, sheds light on the incredible power demands of modern AI clusters and data centers. Today's largest facilities consume up to 150 megawatts, but the future points to "gigawatt-class" data centers—requiring energy comparable to cities like San Francisco or even New York. Dr. Nguyen emphasizes the challenge of scaling to 400k+ or even million-node clusters and how solutions like Marvell DCI Optics ZR and ZR+ enable multi-site connectivity with high-speed optics. With these advancements, the vision of powering massive AI superclusters is closer than ever. So, the question isn't if—it's how soon. • With demand for AI services growing and the amount of data consumed by training clusters and inference servers rising, we are going to see an explosion of long-distance data transmission. That means one thing: more, faster, more efficient, and more economical fiber connections, say Stephen Adolph of Marvell Technology and Marc Stiller of Lumentum technology during a webinar with Sean Buckley of Lightwave Online. Some of the gems from the deck. Expect to see data centers go from having tens of fiber pairs to hundreds. Network power in a cutting-edge training cluster could rise to 22MW, or 18% of total power. (Debates rage on network’s power contribution.). Yet, the picojoules per bit are slated to drop over 30% from today’s 800G modules to 2027’s 1.6T modules. And if you've ever wondered what a 100K cluster might look like, the courtroom sketch is below. The full show floor at the link in the comments

    Technology Analyst

Excited to see Marvell Technology's latest innovation tackling the speed and reach challenges of passive copper cables! Their newly launched 1.6 Tbps LPO chipset is a game-changer for data center interconnects, addressing the growing demand for high-bandwidth solutions in AI-driven environments. As highlighted in the announcement, this chipset brings clarity and focus to LPO technology, enabling optimized performance for short, inside-the-rack connections. The move not only advances the performance of AI clusters but also signals a pivotal shift in the industry’s approach to improving networking links. I was honored to share my perspective: “Marvell’s innovative approach to achieving performance gains helps drive better AI cluster TCO and highlights the industry’s direction in optimizing networking links.” This is a significant milestone in optimizing compute fabric networks as they transition to 200 Gbps per lane. Kudos to the Marvell team for continuing to lead innovation in data infrastructure semiconductor solutions! 👏 Xi Wang https://lnkd.in/gPQYWBSN #AI #Networking #DataCenters #Semiconductors #Innovation

    Hardware Design Engineer at Marvell

This year, I had the opportunity to co-host "AI and Beyond - Marvell Welcomes TechWomen 2024" alongside Anu Agrawal. The event was a resounding success, featuring an engaging keynote by Sandeep Bharathi, our Chief Development Officer, an enlightening talk on "Semiconductors and AI" by Nigel Alvares, VP of Global Marketing, an inspiring panel discussion with Marvell's Women Leaders followed by introductions from Marvell TechWomen Teams. TechWomen, a U.S. Department of State initiative, fosters professional mentorship and cross-cultural exchange, and this marks my second year of participation. I had the privilege of mentoring Auma H. from Kenya alongside my colleagues Keh-Chiang Ku and Tingting Weng. A heartfelt thanks to Cora Lam, Women@Marvell, TechWomen, Marvell Technology for the opportunity and my management - BK, Mandar Kulkarni, and Lyndsi Parker, for their incredible support!
