Strategies to implement cultural competency education in the curriculum remain non-standardized and vary between pharmacy colleges. Research published this month by LIU Pharmacy faculty - Nardine Karam, PharmD, Suzanna Gim, Rebecca Cope, PharmD, MPH, BCACP - in American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education (AJPE) explores the perspectives of #PharmD students as they learn to provide patient care across diverse patient communities. #futureofpharmacy #patientcare #healthcareprofessionals Long Island University

In an era where pharmaceutical advancements are rapidly evolving rigorous independent testing of drug products is paramount to safeguarding public health and maintaining consumer trust. Faculty members at LIU Pharmacy —Dean Arash Dabestani and affiliate professor David Y. Light —led groundbreaking new research published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology. The study, co-authored with faculty from Yale University, found a substantial portion of topical benzoyl peroxide (BPO) acne and rosacea treatments currently on the market are unstable and contain unacceptably high levels of benzene, a known human carcinogen.

A surreal experience today to return to Long Island University College of Pharmacy where my journey in the U.S. began and I first encountered topical product formulation during my research on Transdermal Drug Delivery. Three decades later, I had the honor of visiting the very labs where it all started. Meeting Dean Arash Dabestani, faculty members and connecting with pharmacy and cosmetics students was a privilege, and I enjoyed sharing my experiences and insights. I’m thrilled to pay it forward and collaborate on an exciting and visionary project with the University—stay tuned for more details! #payitforward #PharmD #CosmeticScience #PharmaceuticalSciences #LongIslandUniversity Deborah A, galia benchaya Mingwei Lin Niki Patel Divya Mahajan Saloni Rane Aishwarya Tripathi Elvira Quarshie celeste talbot Michelle Outten Eileen Read Sarah O'Shea

LIU Pharmacy students provided blood pressure testing and information to 500+ attendees at the inaugural NYC Department for the Aging “Healthy Aging Fair” in UES Manhattan, NY. Experiential education in geriatric care prepares future pharmacists for complex healthcare interventions and can spark a career interest in care for older adults. "It's a great opportunity for our students to familiarize themselves with this rapidly growing patient population in a community setting. This type of hands-on experience will be key to their future professional success and will positively impact patient outcomes in our ever-changing world.” Dr. Brooke Fidler-Markowitz. Earlier this year LIU Pharmacy students had another taste of interprofessional collaboration with NYC Department for the Aging through presenting health webinars to patients in their native Spanish, Russian, Mandarin, and Cantonese languages.
