From the age of six, Georgia State Senator John Albers’ son, Will, had elevated creatinine levels, an indicator of a potential kidney problem. Then in August 2020, 24-year-old Will was rushed to the ER after experiencing fatigue and extreme sickness that wouldn’t go away. Will’s kidneys were failing. By the next morning, they had completely stopped functioning, and doctors performed an emergency procedure to start dialysis. For nine months, Senator Albers and his wife, Kari, underwent testing, hoping to be a living donor match for their son. In July 2021, the call came—Senator Albers was a match. 💙 The surgery was a success, and Will had a new chance at life. The following January, Senator Albers proposed legislation "Giving the Gift of Life Act," to help Georgians in need of organ transplants. It passed unanimously and became law. Currently, Senator Albers is working to expand it nationally. Reflecting on organ donation, Sen. Albers says, “I know God could have chosen anyone, but He picked me and Will. Now, we are called to help others navigate and improve this process.” Through organ, eye and tissue donation, your story continues. ♾️ To learn more about living donation, visit https://lnkd.in/eq68NPrH. #FacesofTransplantation

Jack Martin was a fun-loving 13-year-old who enjoyed logic games, being in the water, and dancing. He was a good friend and defender of those he cared for. However, although he showed no obvious outward signs of depression, Jack was inwardly struggling and tragically took his own life. Jack’s parents, Liz and Paul, decided to save lives through organ donation amid their loss. Multiple states away, a boy named Ben was awaiting a heart transplant, and thanks to Jack and the Martin family, he got it. 💙 On Christmas Eve in 2020, the Martin family received one of the greatest gifts they could imagine, a letter from Ben’s family. After communication back and forth, in May of 2023, Ben and his mom, Cheri, traveled to meet the Martin’s face to face. Their relationship continues to grow. An additional legacy grew from Jack’s passing, Operation: Jack’s Village. Through Operation: Jack’s Village the Martin family works to bring awareness to adolescent suicide and create strategies to improve mental health.
