📢 New Study Published on ACL-R Incidence Rates Across Six Sports in Sweden from the Stockholm Sports Trauma Research Center at Karolinska Institutet! Proud to announce our recent publication, from the SWEREX study (SWEdish nationwide incidence and REturn to sports after ACL-R[X]), where we examined Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction (ACL-R) incidence rates in higher-level athletes across six sports, analyzing trends by sex, age and division. 📈⚽🤾🏻♂️🏀🏒🥅⛷️ 🥇This is the first nationwide study investigating ACL-R incidence in higher-level athletes performed with a high quality and reliable national registry. 🌟 Key Insights: ➡️ The highest ACL-R incidence rates in female ahtletes were observed in football (soccer), basketboll, handball, and alpine sports. ➡️ Male athletes also had the highest ACL-R incidence rates in football (soccer), handball, and alpine sports, but had lower incidence rates in basketball. ➡️ Female athletes experience a 3.3-fold higher incidence of ACL-R, underscoring a persistent challenge in women's sports that demands attention. ➡️ Second division female athletes have a 1.7-fold higher incidence rate compared to first division athletes, warranting further research. ➡️ Future research using national registries combined with data from sport organisations may follow the current study. This study highlights the pressing need for adherence to injury prevention programs, that we know work! Prevention must remain a top priority in sports medicine to safeguard athletes and reduce the impact of ACL injuries across all levels of play. Special thanks to our team Henrik Hedevik, Helena Stigson, Per Wretenberg , Joanna Kvist and Anders Stålman, as well as the six sport organizations that collaborated Svenska Fotbollförbundet with there comprehensive IT system FOGIS, Svenska Handbollförbundet , Svenska Basketbollförbundet ,Svenska Ishockeyförbundet , Svenska Innebandyförbundet, and Svenska Skidförbundet together with The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dRqpnEGH Let’s keep pushing for advancements in ACL injury prevention! 💪 Your thoughts and collaborations are always welcome. #ACLInjury #ACLregister #SportsMedicine #WomenInSports #InjuryPrevention

Hockey, Cricket and Triathlon. Just 3 of the 12 sports being removed from the 2026 Commonwealth Games. I understand that costs need to be cut but is bowls a sport that inspires the younger generation to take up something new? Have I missed something? I would love to know the decision process behind this sport remaining within the those hallowed 10. Isn’t it about time our government and industry, as a whole, realised the value sport has to make? Not just in terms of income but in terms of the health of our nation? https://lnkd.in/dgcVKDZQ

How should athletes be represented in sports governance? At SportAccord 2024, #FIFPRO's Alexandra Gómez Bruinewoud joined Andreas Zagklis (FIBA), Emilio Garcia Silvero (FIFA), Áine Power (Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI)), and Florian Yelin (World Players Association) to debate the topic. The group explored two primary models for athlete representation: internal and external. Internal representation involves athletes as formal members of the governing body, with voting rights within the decision-making body. External representation refers to models where players are represented by a body that is external and independent, but negotiates with the governing body. Alexandra underscored the importance of independent athlete representation through player unions, highlighting the power of negotiation over mere consultation. Ultimately, though, the consensus was clear: athletes should have the freedom to choose the representation model that aligns best with their needs. #WhereSportMeets #SportAccord

What does it take to get the national agency for sport, three sports governing bodies, universities and academic leaders, a national health service, a government and a concerned parent together? A topic as important as concussion in sport! Whilst organisations can lend a helping hand and provide much valued resources, it takes people to drive and innovate. Scotland has led for the past 9 years in developing one set of guidelines for all who are active and enjoy sport. If In Doubt Sit Them Out has now been adopted across the whole of the UK and with our Australian and Kiwi cousins. Today’s launch of the third iteration of the guidelines sees an improvement how we should recognise and remove anyone suspected of a concussion, how the brain of a child or an adult should be respected in the same way with rest, recuperation, rehabilitation and return to normal life and sport, how we should be more aware of the impact on women and girls as well as those of us who enjoy sport and live with a disability. Read about it, learn and tell others know about it. The team of experts behind the guidelines includes representatives from The Scottish Government, Scottish Rugby, Scottish Football Association, The University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, University of Stirling and the sportscotland institute of sport. Head of Sports Medicine at the sportscotland institute of sport, Dr Niall Elliott, said: “Our understanding of concussion continues to evolve. The latest guidance reflects the most recent advances in the area and is a significant landmark of the work being done in Scotland to raise awareness of the serious issue of concussion in sport.” Find out more: https://lnkd.in/e_d8Rpwv

It's been great to see our community of teams continuing to grow over the past year, with more teams in the US, UK and Europe partnering with Icarus because they (rightly) think their team deserves the fully custom kit treatment. As our list of partners grows, it's more important than ever that we get some of them together in person to play some soccer, get to know each other, and maybe most importantly - rock some sick jerseys. So, with that in mind, we're bringing the Icarus Cup back for its 4th edition this summer! Though this is technically an announcement, you know it was never in doubt. From July 12-14, we'll be welcoming 80 teams to Philadelphia for Icarus' festival of soccer, with all of the usual ingredients: a 7-a-side tournament, live music, a beer garden, and most importantly, 80 more totally unique kit designs. Since the Icarus Cup brings teams from all over to Philadelphia, we're basing all the designs on places around the world. It'll all be like a very niche World's Fair. The Icarus Cup is first-and-foremost a community event, so the most important aspect is the people who come and get involved. So, if you have a team and you'd like to sign up, head here to register: https://lnkd.in/eAkPzNt7 Similarly, a key part of the event is bringing aboard partners, whether they be local businesses or brands we love, to sponsor the teams competing (and to add that key finishing touch to the kits). We like to keep it affordable so everyone has a chance to be involved, and with more than 1000 people coming to the event, we're confident it's a worthwhile experience. Please get in touch if your business is interested in playing a part in making the Cup happen (and would like the 10 complimentary shirts that come with sponsorship)! Also playing an essential role in making the Cup happen are our partners Casa Soccer League - don't know what we'd do without Nolan Bair, Charlie Shea and the team! As ever, it should be an amazing time and we can't wait to have everyone in Philly yet again. For those who couldn't make it last time around, here’s a video that was made about us and last year’s event! https://lnkd.in/exD-sFjd.
