Do you know about the invisible co-pilots that help you get where you need to go when you ride with Metro? Let us turn the spotlight onto two of our supervisors, Debra Freeman and Gil Anselmo. Supervisor Debra Freeman joined King County Metro in 1989 and has been a supervisor since 2001. Debra started out in Base Operations, moving to Service Quality, the Transit Control Center (TCC), Tunnel Control (buses), and then Training. She is one of the few to work in all five sections. Debra likes the operators she works with to know that she is doing her best to take care of them. "I try to make sure I assist operators in the most efficient way." Gil’s journey to Metro started with a newspaper ad. He applied for the job and started at Metro in 1991. At the time, Gil thought it would be convenient for him to come from his job at the import company. He compares that routine to Superman quickly changing into his superhero cape, except Gil’s changed into his Metro uniform. Gil became a full-time operator in 1996 and became a supervisor in 2001. In his spare time, Gil enjoys reading, writing, traveling, and gardening. Read more: https://wp.me/p1GXf3-88G

Metro and Solaris Bus & Coach signed a deal that could lead to a new option for zero-emission vehicles in North America. Solaris has been a supplier of zero-emission buses for over a decade and provides battery-electric buses, hydrogen fuel cell buses, and electric trolleys. “Expanding the number of manufacturers who can produce these new vehicles for North American markets benefits not only our region but transit agencies throughout the country.” https://bit.ly/4gSu0Jb

With nearly triple the power—our trolley buses will go farther. Kiepe Electric and Metro have reached a $26 million agreement for Kiepe to supply new, improved battery packs for our trolley fleet. The new battery packs will provide 72 kWh to each trolley – nearly 3x of the energy capacity of the current battery packs. This update is expected to extend the range of off-wire operations when incidents block the trolley route. Learn more: https://bit.ly/3D1Ziyn KIEPE
