Enhancing quality of life through transportation
About us
The state transportation system is inextricably woven into the fabric of Idaho life. The state's citizens use Idaho's transportation system to get to work, school, friends and recreation. They also rely on that system to bring goods to their stores, services to their doorstep, and to make sure the state's goods and services are delivered to the customers of the nation and the world. From the food they eat, to the letters they read, to the movies they drive to, Idahoans are empowered by transportation in complex and substantial ways. The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) has many opportunities for work variety and specialization. There are many careers to pursue at ITD including Engineering, Finance and Accounting, Human Resources, and more. April 8, 2016, started as a normal day for Jennifer Zavala. She planned to pick her kids up from school and drop her daughter off at soccer practice. That night, her oldest son Levi planned to see the Idaho Steelheads game with his Papa—Jennifer’s father, Joel Eggers. But everything changed in a split second when an impaired driver careened off the road and hit and killed Joel while he was on an afternoon walk. Jennifer is now an advocate with @MADD. She shares about her Dad in the hopes that others choose not to drive impaired. We were honored to speak with Jennifer and learn more about the life of Joel Eggers. Our first-ever Name a Snowplow Contest has officially wrapped up, and we’re thrilled to announce the 12 winning names! This contest invited eighth-grade classrooms across the state to submit creative and fun names for our snowplows. In some areas, ITD employees and their children helped brainstorm names to ensure every region was represented. After an anonymous vote by our ITD employees, the winners have been chosen 👏

We've been having some foggy mornings across the state, so here are a few reminders to keep you safe on the road! 🌫️ Slow down and give yourself extra following distance, use low-beam headlights or fog lights, keep an eye out for vehicles that may have pulled off the road, and use pavement markings to stay in your lane. Visibility can change quickly, so drive cautiously and make safety your priority!
