🎉 Congratulations to the two winners of the 2024 Digital Competition, Jennifer Tansill with Western Colorado University and Jackie Claver, GISP with GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. On behalf of the Vanguard Cabinet and the entire GPN community, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to these two incredible contributors! 🏆 Jenna Tansill’s Story Map ‘Manipulating Harmonized Landsat Sentinel Imagery in R’ showcase her innovative approach to monitoring grazing landscapes over time. Drawing from her ongoing involvement in vegetation monitoring for Gunnison Sage Grouse critical habitat with the U.S. Forest Service, Jenna highlights the effectiveness of satellite imagery in detecting spatial and temporal shifts in vegetation structure. By pairing this data with RStudio for efficient code iteration and processing, she demonstrates how remote sensing can enhance the accuracy and efficiency of landscape monitoring efforts. View the StoryMap: https://lnkd.in/eZgJDYKs Jacquelyn Claver’s Experience Builder ‘Town of Branford Natural Resources Inventory’ consolidates existing information and databases into an organized, accessible resource. The NRI is divided into chapters based on available data which describe general landscape characteristics and mineral resources, and Biological Communities, which catalog plants and animals. Additional information is found in the Open Space chapter, and a separate section on Environmental Problems and Flooding/Resiliency addresses natural challenges and human impacts. The NRI draws on the Town and State GIS systems and incorporates data from various public and private agencies. View the Experience Builder: https://lnkd.in/eScBN7-Y

Congratulations to Walter Kosinski, P.E., on his well-deserved retirement! After an outstanding 46-year career at GZA, Walter has left behind a legacy defined by integrity, respect, and technical excellence—the very principles that form the foundation of our company. Walter’s journey with GZA began on March 6, 1978, shortly after earning his Master’s in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Rhode Island. His career path took him from an entry-level engineer in Massachusetts and Rhode Island to key roles in Florida and Ohio, ultimately culminating as a Principal in our Livonia, Michigan office. Throughout his tenure, Walter served as a licensed professional engineer in multiple states, tackling environmental, geotechnical, and groundwater engineering challenges. His leadership and expertise were instrumental in managing diverse projects, always focusing on practical, cost-effective solutions that achieved regulatory closure and successful property redevelopment. His ability to craft both simple and complex conceptual site models provided clear guidance to clients and regulators, setting a benchmark for excellence in environmental investigations, remedial design, and implementation. Walter’s extensive technical expertise encompasses: - Subsurface exploration for environmental and geotechnical projects - Geophysical survey - Environmental site investigations - Dam construction and inspection - Pumping test and Groundwater flow modeling - Groundwater engineering in civil, geotechnical, and environmental remediation projects. - Remedial feasibility studies, and remedial system design - Contract documentation and construction management of complex projects As a key figure in GZA’s history, Walter was part of the group that transitioned the company back to private ownership and served as one of GZA’s first Board of Directors members. His mentorship has profoundly impacted many of us, instilling a deep respect for quality, accuracy, and attention to detail. Over the past 30+ years in Michigan, Walter developed strong relationships with regulators, clients, and peers, often taking the lead on critical projects. His role as a senior technical reviewer further cemented his reputation as a trusted advisor and industry leader. Walter’s contributions have been invaluable, and we are proud to have had such a distinguished professional dedicate his career to GZA. We wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement and look forward to honoring his enduring legacy.
