The American Water Charitable Foundation celebrates #GivingTuesday by awarding a $100,000 Corporate Strategic grant to Feeding America, as well as provided American Water employee Giving Accounts with a $100 reward to donate to eligible charities of choice. Heart on Main Street is raising money to help retailers impacted by recent storms throughout the US. In the last two weeks, deadly tornados have affected entire communities and destroyed locally-owned businesses in Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa and Texas. This year alone, already hundreds of locally-owned independent retail stores have become victims of natural disasters. These unexpected disasters have affected retailers in every part of the country. While businesses are insured, there is often a gap between the cost of recovery and what they are paid out. This leaves retailers on the hook for thousands of dollars if they want to re-open their store and remain a part of the community. Independent retailers are huge drivers of the local economy and helping these retailers recover brings hope back to these affected communities. They bring a sense of normalcy to areas that have lost so much.
