Global Capacity Building Coalition (GCBC) reposted this
Delighted to join Puleng Ndjwili-Potele and Mustafa Chaudhry from Global Capacity Building Coalition (GCBC) Founding Member United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) on stage at #GRT2024 this morning. All finance needs to become #sustainablefinance, and every professional financial decision needs to take account of #climatechange and #sustainability. #CapacityBuilding - developing the capabilities of financial institutions, and the competence of finance professionals, plays a key role in building and embedding positive, purposeful cultures aligned with sustainability. The Principles for Responsible Banking #PRB and Principles for Responsible Banking Academy are key, impactful and influential capacity-building programmes and initiatives leading this alignment globally.
Right now in Room D at UNEP FI’s #GRT2024 we are asking: How can financial institutions align their professional practice with sustainability goals? In today's rapidly evolving financial landscape, the integration of sustainability into financial practices is no longer optional but essential. How then can financial institutions upskill their workforce to respond to the challenges of sustainability? How do the Principles for #ResponsibleBanking and UNEP FI's workplan support member banks? Join UNEP FI’s banking Co-Lead, Puleng Ndjwili-Potele and Simon Thompson, Managing Director, Global Capacity Building Coalition (GCBC) as they provide insights and practical strategies to empower finance professionals to integrate sustainability into their core competencies. What a way to celebrate our 1st year anniversary! Many thanks to DIFC, Global Ethical Finance Initiative (GEFI), and all our event partners and members on this first regional capacity building forum in Dubai.
At capacity at the Global Capacity Building Coalition (GCBC)'s first Regional #CapacityBuilding Forum in Dubai, marking the first anniversary of our launch at #COP28 in the #UAE. Many thanks to our hosts DIFC; to our event partners and GCBC member the Global Ethical Finance Initiative (GEFI); to GCBC members Principles for Responsible Investment, The Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (The CISI), Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) and ACCA for inviting their alumni and members to join us, and to the UAE Banks Federation for their support. Key takeaway: the UAE and GCC region are rapidly growing hubs for #sustainablefinance, #climatetech and #humancapital. The Global Capacity Building Coalition (GCBC) and our members help share regional capabilities and expertise to build capacity and mobilize #climatefinance across emerging markets. Thank you to all our speakers and panelists this morning: Alya Al Zarouni, Susan Rice, Luma Saqqaf, Sabrin Rahman, Alice Spencer, Mohieddine (Dino) Kronfol, Jamal Saleh (Director General, UAE Banks Federation) and Mohsin Sharif (Islamic Development Bank). Especially to my co-host Dr Omar Shaikh, and my colleague Clementine Le Nagard.

As week 2️⃣ of COP29 Azerbaijan starts, check out this awesome week 1️⃣ wrap from our MD, Simon Thompson.
The sun sets on Week 1 at #COP29. Despite the many valid criticisms of the COP process, it remains the global focal point for #climateaction. And, while recognising that many important voices are not represented, when so many good people come together and share ideas, great things can happen. In the case of climate finance: inspiring individuals, re-shaping institutions and mobilising capital for a successful, just transition. That’s what our Global Capacity Building Coalition (GCBC) members and partners try to do; unlocking #climatefinance through #capacitybuilding. Enhancing organisations’ capabilities and individuals’ competence to align with the principles and practice of #sustainablefinance. It’s been great to spend time with members including ACCA, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Asian Development Bank Institute, Capacity-building Alliance of Sustainable Investment (CASI), Climate Bonds Initiative, CFA Institute, Global Ethical Finance Initiative (GEFI), International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), our newest member NDC Partnership, Principles for Responsible Investment, RMI, UNDP and UNDP Financial Centres for Sustainability (FC4S), and United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI). And especially to co-curate the UN Climate Change Paris Committee on Capacity-building Capacity Building Hub on Finance Day. Thank you Alejandro Kilpatrick, Eva Costas and David Oehmen. And to be able to meet, share ideas and speak alongside many inspiring individuals including but definitely not limited to (and sorry if I’ve missed you): Mardi McBrien, Omar Shaikh, Ralien Bekkers, Stephen Nolan, Sarah Kemmitt, Joaquim L R Ferreira Leite, Vikas Aggarwal, Sean Kidney, Sherry Madera, Katherine Stodulka, Mahmoud Mohieldin, Luca Taschini, Mercedes Vela Monserrate, Babak Abbaszadeh, David Atkin Special thanks to Ma Jun and our colleagues at the Capacity-building Alliance of Sustainable Investment (CASI). It was a great pleasure to join the CASI Sustainability Forum yesterday. And thank you to my wonderful GCBC colleague Clementine Le Nagard for leading our COP29 programme with me, and to all the GCBC team back at base for supporting us while we’re out here.
