October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Access to safe, stable, and affordable housing is one of the most urgent concerns for survivors of domestic violence, and often determines if they leave an abuser – and if they LIVE. That’s why we’re building affordable, supportive housing for domestic violence survivors and their children on Long Island—with our partners New Ground Inc. and The Kulka Group. There is almost NO such housing in Nassau and Suffolk Counties and the need for this housing is great, across all of NY. We’re pleased to share The Grove Apartments groundbreaking ceremony and remarks—held in East Patchogue on May 17. The Grove is a 55 unit, mixed-use affordable and supportive housing development in East Patchogue. From our President, Dave Gallo: “A groundbreaking requires vision. In this case, it was the vision of Focus East Patchogue, the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County and New York State Homes & Community Renewal. It was the vision especially of our partners at New Ground Inc. and The Kulka Group, who saw not a blighted site, but all of its potential—Sunday breakfasts, movie nights, birthday celebrations. All of the life that will happen here, in safe, beautiful, affordable housing for its residents. GGV’s Riverview Lofts is the subject of the Council on Developmental Disabilities new video, “Housing for People with Developmental Disabilities: A Success Story.” In 2019, The NYS Council on Developmental Disabilities partnered with the NY Alliance for Inclusion and Innovation on a housing grant call "Statewide and Regional Housing Collaboratives." Through this 5-year project, the NY Alliance had conversations around New York State on how to better support people with developmental disabilities in finding housing of their choosing. Riverview Lofts is a shining example of how people coming together can make developments like this happen. Our President Dave Gallo, along with residents and many stakeholders who have contributed to the success of this life-changing development share about collaboration and the positive way Riverview Lofts is making a difference. Georgica Green Ventures proudly celebrated the ribbon cutting of Manhattan Avenue Senior Apartments with our valued partner—the Greenburgh Housing Authority—on April 3, 2024. This beautiful new building with 70 units replaced six dilapidated buildings with 30 units. Existing tenants were relocated during construction and have now returned to live in, and enjoy the new complex—many attending the ceremony. New York State Homes and Community Renewal Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas shared in the press release: "The Greenburgh Housing Authority and Georgica Green Ventures more than doubled the capacity of this development while preserving the area’s scale and open space, proving that good design and a commitment to helping to solve our housing crisis work well together.” #georgicagreenventures #seniorhousing #affordablehousing
