Our agency is a network of former founders and operators who help startups make the right decision about what to sell and how to sell it. Ghostwriting: the good, the bad, and the scary 🎃 🎃 🎃
Earlier this week, Jonathan Gandolf screamed about hating ghostwriting. Comments flooded in. Now? Looks like he’s rethinking things. Maybe he's open to changing his tune. So, I’m stepping in to push the needle. We’re not just throwing opinions around—we’re gathering some of the sharpest marketers and ghostwriters out there. Ghostwriting? It’s good, it’s bad, and it can be downright scary. We’re going to hit it all. No tricks. Just real talk. Join David J Ebner 🥸, Bridget Poetker 👽, Jonathan, and myself on October 30th at 2pm ET for a roundtable on ghostwriting’s impact. Let’s see if Gandolf stays in the fight or taps out. 🎫 https://lnkd.in/gFUUG-kJ

This is just the beginning.
It’s time you meet the Five Four team. I’m beyond thrilled to officially highlight the talented individuals who are building world’s best startup growth agency. Kate Gahimer, Marketing Director 👋 She’s the marketer and strategist behind nearly every client. Having built her own social media agency several years ago, Kate has a high bar for delivering great work for great clients. Her talents are the reason why our clients are growing revenue and launching new products into the world. TJ Nieset, Creative Lead 👋 He’s the man behind the brand. In less than a year, TJ has designed and revamped TEN companies, helping them look the way they feel. He can simultaneously focus on the big picture while making sure every single pixel is on brand. Christian Beck, Co-Founder and COO 👋 He’s the business partner I never thought I’d have. Christian’s ability to strategize and think about the future of business is unlike anyone I’ve ever met. He’s the thought partner who can help founders think through nearly any part of their business. And he’s only just scratching the surface of his vision. Five Four exists because founders and CEOs trust this team to be their growth experts. And while these are the full time folks making it happen, I cannot post this without highlighting the incredible fractional experts who have either worked with us to support clients or helped shape what this agency is becoming. Sena Hineline -- Alexander Kotler -- Betina Evancha -- Dana Fugate -- Ellie Symes -- Diana Jeong Ro -- Sarah (Estes) Day -- James Kennedy IV -- Adam Wise -- Elan Kawesch -- Ben Kettle -- Maureen West -- Neil Granberry -- Jenny Zhao -- Lindsay Tjepkema -- Wesley Cate — THANK YOU. PS - Many thanks to Andy Skinner of Indy CD & Vinyl for giving us a rad musical space for our photo shoot!

“We built Five Four to help founders in the earliest stages with growth at an affordable cost. Our goal is to help bridge the gap of the cold start problem for founders. We help them increase revenue, establish their beachhead markets, and ultimately establish a path to finding product-market fit. Our hope is that we set them up to be healthier and then to be able to bring expertise in-house to replace ourselves.” Shout out to our co-founder Christian Beck for being the newest EIR for IU Ventures!

Do things that don't scale.
We were 15 min away from Newark when the pilot came over the speaker and said, “I hate to be the bearer of bad news but…” A storm was rolling into New York and we didn’t have enough fuel to circle. They were diverting us to Harrisburg. My superstition level on a scale of 1-10 is only about a 3. Still, this seemed like a bad omen for a trip we’d spent weeks prepping for. Sure enough, we touched down at Newark about 2 hours later. All said and done, it could have been worse. My cofounder R. J. Talyor and I rushed downtown, checked in, and had a quick dinner before setting our alarms for a 5:30am wake up call. The next morning we were up with the worms, prepping for meetings before we headed to Midtown around 7am for an event we were cohosting with our friends at Flaunt. We had a great time hanging with ~25 marketers, CXOs, etc before jumping back into an Uber and heading to The Lead Summit which we were sponsoring. We did about 15 meetings before rushing back to the hotel for a quick rest before dinner and drinks with some of our NYC based customers. The next day we woke up and did much of the same, before heading back to Newark and miraculously catching an earlier flight home. What’s the point? These moments to bring people together face-to-face are rare, but so, so important. On a startup budget, it’s even more crucial to pack these trips chalk full from wire to wire. We left feeling tired and ragged. But we were equally excited and energized. Our pipeline is full. We saw old and new friends alike. And we felt good about the groundwork we had laid. Thanks to everyone who made time for us — we don’t take it for granted. Until next time New York!

“I need to find the right marketing channel so I can scale it, fast.” — Every startup founder for all of eternity. But here's the deal. When you have the cold start problem -- which every startup has -- you don’t know what works to know what to scale. You won’t know exactly what to do. But you must try. https://lnkd.in/g8Vfn3y3
