On February 18, 2023, Temple University Police Sergeant Christopher Fitzgerald, just 31 years old, was tragically shot and killed in the line of duty in North Philadelphia. It’s a day his wife, Marissa, and their four children will never forget. While nothing can erase their pain, FBBCF has been honored to support their family financially. Last year, the Fitzgerald family was a beneficiary of the Andy Chan Block Party, with Marissa sharing how deeply blessed they felt by the community's support. This year, the funds raised will not only support Andy Chan but also eight other families of fallen or severely injured first responders. Please consider attending, purchasing raffle tickets, or buying event shirts to help make a difference. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/e9NX6znv #SupportFirstResponders #FBBCF #AndyChanBlockParty

About us
The Families Behind the Badge Children’s Foundation (FBBCF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit committed to improving the lives of children in the Greater Philadelphia and South Jersey area. We achieve this by providing necessary financial relief for the families of fallen or critically injured first responders and cultivating positive relationships and interactions between police officers and the children in the communities they serve. Founded in 2007, the Families Behind the Badge Children's Foundation was created to better allocate and manage the funds raised from the legendary The Ben to The Shore Bike Tour, a 65-mile bicycle ride from Philadelphia to Atlantic City. Established in 1988, the bike ride started with 20 cyclists the first year and has grown to 2,500 riders, raising $1.1 million in 2019. This ride has become a summer staple in the Greater Philadelphia and South Jersey community. Throughout the first 20 years of The Ben to The Shore Bike Tour, money raised went to a variety of worthy causes in the community. In 2007, after several Philadelphia Police Officers were killed in the line of duty, the organization made a change in the focus of its funding by putting a greater emphasis on supporting families of our fallen officers while still supporting local children in the communities that these first responders serve.

We were proud to partner with the Philadelphia Police Department and the Upper Darby Police Department for two incredible holiday events that brought joy to local families. At the “Shop With a Cop” event at Walmart in South Philly, over 500 kids from across the city enjoyed a day of shopping with PPD officers. We’re excited to see this event grow into the largest of its kind in the region. Kudos to Sgt. Nick Tees for another successful year, and thank you to Walmart for your continued support of the first responder community. We were also thrilled to sponsor “Presents with Police” with UDPD at Burlington, where officers shopped alongside children from Stonehurst Hills Elementary School and their families, spreading holiday cheer with gifts for loved ones. Special thanks to Lt. Laina Stevens for coordinating and to Burlington’s incredible team for their warm hospitality. #CommunityImpact #HolidayGiving #FBBCF

Last week, FBBCF joined the Preston & Steve Show (WMMR) at their annual Camp Out for Hunger event to present a $10,000 check to Philabundance. Now in its 27th year, this incredible initiative raises awareness and support for Philabundance, a nonprofit food bank working to end hunger in the Philadelphia region. Hosted live from the parking lot of Xfinity Live!, the event brings excitement, fun, and a strong sense of community to this critical mission. We’re honored to support Philabundance and their impactful work! #CampOutForHunger #Philabundance #CommunityImpact

Today, we solemnly remember two heroes who gave their lives in the line of duty. Joyce Craig, a Philadelphia Firefighter, lost her life on December 9, 2014, while courageously serving her community. Her dedication and bravery are a testament to the commitment of first responders everywhere. Daniel Faulkner, a Philadelphia Police Officer, gave his life on December 9, 1981, while protecting the city he served.
