  • 🎉 We’re pleased to announce that we’ve received the European MDR Certification for the Empatica Health Monitoring Platform. This certification sets a new benchmark for medical devices, with more stringent requirements aimed at enhancing patient safety, transparency, and accountability within the EU market. Receiving this certification reinforces that our platform is a trusted solution for pharmaceutical companies and CROs. With over 300 digital measures available, we’re proud to say that our platform is the largest wearable and digital biomarker platform to achieve both CE MDR certification and FDA clearance. • 📊 Cast your vote in our #ThisOrThat poll. 💻 Do you work with a clean or cluttered computer desktop? We put this question to our colleagues at Empatica and working with a clean desktop came out on top. The Princeton University Neuroscience Institute has shown that our brains like order, and visual reminders of disorganization can negatively impact our ability to focus. Whereas a clean workspace helps to boost our focus and productivity. Do you agree?

  • Are you looking for a way to leverage wearable tech in your obesity #ClinicalTrial? Wearable technology and #DigitalBiomarkers are increasingly being used to help achieve a more objective evaluation of obesity-related health metrics, helping to accurately track progression and treatment outcomes. The most suitable digital biomarkers to use will depend on your clinical trial protocol and objective, but here we share how different digital measures can be used in obesity research. 1️⃣ Physical activity (PA): Studies consistently show that obese individuals are generally less physically active than lean controls and weight loss is closely associated with improvements in physical mobility. 2️⃣ Pulse Rate (PR): Studies show that obese patients have an increased baseline pulse rate value than lean controls. Weight loss is associated with a significant decrease in resting heart rate, heart rate during activity, and heart rate recovery after exertion. 3️⃣ Energy Expenditure (EE): This measure is critical for exploring the long-term maintenance of weight loss, with a focus on the time spent in various intensity levels of PA during and after the treatment. 4️⃣ Sleep: Obese individuals often experience sleep disturbances, including insomnia, and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). These conditions contribute to poor sleep quality and increased sleep fragmentation, so monitoring sleep parameters like Total Sleep Time (TST), Wakefulness After Sleep Onset (WASO), and Sleep Efficiency (SE) can provide useful insights into the progression and management of obesity.
