An independent watchdog for disaster relief and humanitarian aid, we believe that transparency, accountability, effective working systems, and public participation are necessary for effective disaster relief preparedness, response, and recovery. Excellent op-ed by Vance Taylor. Couldn't agree more with his words: "None of us should accept that, in 2024, people in the most prosperous nation in the world will suffer and die simply because emergency managers failed to develop the inclusive disaster plans needed to save their lives." Years ago, Disaster Accountability Project successfully advocated to create FEMA's Office of Disability Integration and Coordination (ODIC) to help make sure emergency management is inclusive and accessible.
