About us
The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CISNC is an independently incorporated not-for-profit directed by our own board of directors representing both private and public interests in the state. CISNC assists North Carolina communities in replicating the CIS process of coordinated service delivery, supports the thirty-one local CIS organizations across the state, and advocates for children, youth, and their families. CISNC provides regional and on-site training and technical assistance, builds partnerships with state agencies and organizations to benefit young people, and serves as a resource and information center for local communities concerned about youth at risk of school failure. Communities In Schools is the nation’s largest stay-in school network, serving just over one million youth in 154 communities across the United States. CIS is providing the link between teachers and the community – by bringing caring adults into the schools and community sites to meet children’s needs. This link gives children the much-needed opportunity to focus on learning and their future. CIS National assists CISNC with training, technical assistance and network opportunities.

Being present matters — this trend has far-reaching consequences, from lowered academic achievement to increased dropout rates and life-long missed economic opportunity. The problem is not just one of education — it’s a crisis that impacts individual students, whole families, and entire communities. To address it effectively, we need to look beyond the classroom and tackle the underlying causes that can be addressed through trusting relationships. Wraparound services and integrated student supports (ISS) focus on the whole child/whole youth and are a hallmark of Communities In Schools, the largest provider of ISS in the state and nation. Learn about CISNC's Jobs for North Carolina's Graduates (JNCG) program and Jumpstart Jobs Week. "Communities in Schools North Carolina (CISNC) broke down career-readiness for high schoolers across North Carolina during Jump Start Jobs Week, which took place Oct. 28 through Nov. 1 with events continuing after. During this period, schools that have a Jobs for North Carolina’s Graduates program — a service offered by CISNC — host speakers and different activities centered around searching for a career, resume building, and discovering what skills students need to get there."
