Bringing lower-cost generic prescription medicines directly to consumers
About us
WHY CIVICASCRIPT? Because while many generic medicines cost less than brand name drugs, some high-cost generics are more expensive than they need to be due to lack of competition in the market. With generic medicines accounting for nearly 90 percent of all prescriptions, medication costs can dictate whether patients fill or ration their generic prescriptions. CivicaScript is intent on addressing that problem. WHO CIVICASCRIPT SERVES CivicaScript works to deliver these medicines to U.S. patients at a fraction of their current cost, saving consumers hundreds of millions of dollars annually within a few years post launch. The first CivicaScript generic medicines are now available to individuals and families across the country. THE BACK STORY “Not long after Civica’s hospital-based model was showing promise, another Civica entity was formed in partnership with the Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) Association and multiple independent BCBS companies…CivicaScript focuses on producing generic retail and outpatient drugs…In like fashion to Civica, CivicaScript has grown rapidly; its partners already represent close to 100 million lives and the entity is just getting started.” – From "The Health Care Utility Model: A Novel Approach to Doing Business" NEJM Catalyst | Innovations in Care Delivery, July 2021 In summary: CivicaScript is the Civica operating unit dedicated to lowering the cost of select high-cost generic medicines. Using a cost-plus and price transparent model, CivicaScript, with its founding members including Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) and 18 Independent BCBS health plans, Elevance Health and others, will transform prescription drug distribution to lower the cost of prescription medicines and ensure that consumers benefit from these medicines at a fraction of their current cost.

We’re thrilled that CivicaScript member Navitus Health Solutions has established a scholarship in the name of our new president, Brent Eberle. Brent spent more than two decades at Navitus, most recently as Chief Pharmacy Officer. He joined CivicaScript earlier this month, taking the lead as we prepare to launch new, lower-cost generic medicines in the coming year. The new scholarship was created at Brent’s alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy, honoring his “exceptional leadership and his contributions to the pharmaceutical field.” Congratulations, Brent – we are so proud to have you at the helm as we work to make quality generic medicines affordable and available to everyone.
Today, we celebrate our former Chief Pharmacy Officer, Brent Eberle, and his incredible 20+ year journey at Navitus. As one of our first five employees, Brent helped build Navitus from the ground up, from our very first member to 14+ million members across the nation. In honor of his lasting impact on our organization and decades of incredible service to our industry, we’ve established a scholarship in Brent’s name at his alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy. This scholarship honors Brent’s exceptional leadership and his contributions to the pharmaceutical field, and it ensures his work with the school and its students will be recognized for years to come. As he transitions to his new role as President of CivicaScript, we all look forward to the amazing things he’ll accomplish next. Please join us in wishing Brent the best of luck.

Dear Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians, including members of the Civica Rx, CivicaScript and Civica member hospital teams: Thank you today and every day for being our advocates and care partners. During this #PharmacyWeek we join the chorus of people and organizations applauding your contributions towards optimal outcomes when we need them most and through challenges like unprecedented drug shortages. For those of you attending the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition in December, we’d welcome the opportunity to thank you in person. We’ll be at booth 1107 – stop by and say hi! Back in 2020, Highmark and other Blues plans created CivicaScript in a joint commitment to tackle rising drug costs. The first drug released has already saved members, clients and health plans $3 million — with members saving an average of $90 per month on that drug alone. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eMWQtfWF

We applaud U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen's efforts to launch a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) inquiry into PBMs that are blocking patient access to low-cost generic medicines. PBMs that profit from higher-priced medicines have a financial disincentive to provide access to low-cost generics, such as those offered by CivicaScript. Profit should not come before patients. https://lnkd.in/ezqVfqRi

Thank you, Highmark Inc., for sharing this great example of how patients and plans are saving via partnerships with CivicaScript. Thank you for your leadership!
We've taken a leadership role in tackling the cost of prescription drugs, and we're seeing results. For example, Highmark members taking abiraterone acetate, which is used to treat prostate cancer, are saving an average of $90 per month in out-of-pocket expenses for the medication through Highmark’s role with CivicaScript and a select specialty pharmacy. Since this lower cost generic became available in September 2023, savings for our members, customers and the health plan have approached $3 million — and that's just on one drug. Learn more about our initiative to lower costs and increase access to generic medications below.
