About us

Samaritan is a support platform that empowers people in crisis to reach life goals. Health and human services deploy Samaritan to help last-mile populations gain the financial & social support needed to meet vital needs (like housing). Samaritan enters communities with frontline partners to reach targeted individuals with a Samaritan Membership. Members get a smart wallet, then share goals, needs, and action steps. From here, Members gain social & financial support to meet needs and enable action steps towards goals. Members are not required to have a phone, email, bank access, or legal documentation to participate. Using Samaritan has been shown to help individuals rapidly improve access to care, critical utilities, and housing, significantly increasing life quality and expectancy.

  • We’re honored to be named a finalist in the HLTH Foundation 2nd annual Techquity for Health Case Study Awards! This recognition reflects the journey of thousands of Samaritan Members—individuals facing instability who are finding hope and moving forward through their own determined steps. When shelter is uncertain, health becomes impossible. Exposure to harsh weather, violence, substances, and a lack of basic needs takes a toll on both body and mind. For many, the emergency room becomes the only door that's always open. But with the support of care teams plus direct financial and social support, we continue to see Members: 🏥 Reduce emergency room visits 🌟Meet essential needs like food, clothing, transportation, & utilities 🤝 Engage more frequently with preventive care & support services 💪 Build confidence in managing their health This work is about more than just access to resources. It’s about meeting people where they are, helping them break the cycle of instability, and guiding them toward lasting stability and home—both socially and physically. We’re proud to be a part of their diverse journeys and grateful to the partners who make it all possible. #hlthfoundation #techquity #techquityforhealthfinalist #healthequity #ViVEvent #digitalhealth #digitaldisconnect

November is Homelessness Awareness Month, and we couldn't think of a better week to recognize the growing challenges faced by people who don't have a home this Thanksgiving. For many of the ~1 million Americans who will experience homelessness this year, the profound isolation is just as challenging as the lack of stable housing. At Stand Together Ventures Lab, we’re proud to back samaritan (and its team led by Jonathan Kumar), a platform that provides direct financial and social support to empower individuals to escape the street. Samaritan Members receive capital through their samaritan “smart wallet”, bypassing traditional systems that often create delays. Funds are given both unconditionally and as incentives, so that each Member receives funds needed to overcome everyday barriers and reinforce pathways to stability. Samaritan then opens the door for real, meaningful connections between volunteers ("samaritans") and Members, helping to break down the isolation that most of these individuals face. Samaritan is seeing outsized victories daily for Members in their progression towards stable housing, income, and health. Join us in empowering Americans to rebuild their lives with dignity. Give directly to Samaritan Members financially via https://lnkd.in/egHyir5E or relationally through https://lnkd.in/eKQ86SFp.

  • As you make plans to head home for the holidays, we ask that you take a moment to reflect on what “home” means to you. For many, home is just a hope they’re working toward. This season, we’re inviting you and your team to make a difference by giving on behalf of employees, clients, or communities. 100% of your support goes directly to Samaritan Members who need essentials like groceries, warm clothing, shoes, or a cell phone to call home. We’re especially grateful for partners like Social Impact Capital, whose support has helped so many Members take crucial steps toward stability in housing, income, and health—steps that can truly change the course of their lives. If you'd like to get involved, drop Josh a message or fill out this brief form: https://lnkd.in/enf9tv9T And let us know in the comments: what does "home" mean to you this year? 💜🏠

Almost two years ago, Social Impact Capital gave a gift to its LPs that enabled 200 people on the street in LA to take an estimated 2,000 positive action steps towards stable housing, income, and health.    These action steps over time improved quality & expected length of life, as evidenced by this 3rd party study (https://lnkd.in/guPfE_SW) demonstrating reduced hospitalizations & ER visits for those 200 people.   This year, samaritan is facilitating these gifts for anyone interested in giving on behalf of a group of people such as one’s employees, clients, or prospects. This is a simple way to supplement an EOY gift package with something meaningful that has immediate and direct impact on those living on the streets during the oncoming winter months.   If interested, fill out this form (https://lnkd.in/eDW9qjAS) and someone from samaritan will be in touch. Alternatively, or in addition to, please free to share this opportunity with people in your network as well.

  • 🌟 Meet Lonnie, a determined Samaritan Member from Jacksonville. He’s achieved sobriety, is actively job hunting, and is working to rebuild connections with his family. Despite the challenges, he’s making steady progress. Hurricanes Helene and Milton have left Florida and surrounding states in turmoil. For those experiencing homelessness, the impact is even greater—recovery is tough when resources are limited and shelters are scarce. As the National Alliance to End Homelessness reminds us, “Natural disasters hit the homeless community hardest, and it's a growing problem.” 🤝 You can make a difference. Help ensure that Lonnie and others in our community have the resources they need to continue their progress. Veenu Aulakh from the Medicaid Innovation Collaborative explores how Attane HealthKaizen Health, and samaritan are improving access to food, transportation, and housing. "We know that social determinants of health have both short- and long-term impacts on the health of Americans. At Acumen America and MIC, we are working with our portfolio companies to improve the lives of Medicaid beneficiaries through innovation and identify what works, what doesn’t, and what’s next." It's time to grow the team at samaritan. Health plans and providers are deploying our support platform to empower people on (or near) the street in eight cities across five states. We must #1 widen access to samaritan for more residents in these cities, and #2 deepen the impact that the avg. Samaritan Membership has for a person's life. This first priority is something our new Growth Lead (https://lnkd.in/eP3GBUmx) will tackle directly with Ashish Pamula and Ariel Rose Cooper. The second is what our new Outcomes Lead (https://lnkd.in/eXDF7J_v) will work on directly with me. The ideal candidate for both positions will have excellent background in sales/partnership growth, communications development, and kindling insights through data. Would be indebted to you if you referred someone. These two positions are the first in a series to be announced this fall/winter! Incredibly grateful to samaritan's investors for not accepting the health outcomes of our most vulnerable neighbors, and backing this opportunity to help 250,000+ Americans access the financial and social capital needed to reach stable housing, income, and health. Currently testing samaritan in: - Seattle/Bellingham - Sacramento - Oakland - Los Angeles - San Diego - Louisville - Jacksonville - New York City

  • After working closely with her care team to break down her goal of securing full-time employment into manageable steps—like tracking applications, attending interviews, and more—Maba has successfully landed a full-time job! 🌟👏🎉 Along the way, Maba also focused on taking care of herself, attending important health appointments while staying connected to care. When she needed new clothing and comfortable shoes before her first day, her team of Samaritans stepped in! 👟💜 Can anyone else relate to doing their best & being proud of their progress? We certainly can! 🙋♀️🙋♂️
