FREE ONLINE EVENT: Thursday, January 16, 2025, 12pm-1pm ET – Global Compassion Coalition presents, "The unlikely key to compassion: How willingness to feel your pain unlocks the door to compassion with Rachel Kaplan, MA MFT" In a world marked by division, pain, and challenges, it's easy to find our hearts hardening and our compassion waning. Yet, the capacity to heal pain and keep our hearts open is exactly what’s needed to make positive contributions to the world. What can we do to keep the flame of compassion alive? This January, Rachel Kaplan; author, TEDx speaker and licensed psychotherapist, will teach us techniques to release emotional pain and restore balance to our inner worlds. By nurturing our own emotional well-being, we can cultivate the compassion and strength needed to build a more peaceful and harmonious world. #SundayReads: “Compassion fatigue and burnout are two distinct forms of mental health distress faced by educational workers. Researchers have shown a high level of both phenomena across the field of education; however, a better understanding of what educational workers already do for positive mental and emotional health is needed. This research study examined three years of data, collected via survey, inquiring into the various interventions, namely supports and resources, that educational workers use to support positive mental health. Quantitative data analysis via descriptive and inferential statistics revealed that educational workers relied heavily on their personal support network followed distantly by medical professionals and other interventions, revealing a gap that needs to be addressed by employers. Qualitative thematic analysis revealed a trend towards increased use of environmental interventions to promote positive mental wellbeing. The data analysis suggested areas of focus required to ensure workplace wellbeing, and that programs too focused on individual or self-directed interventions would not be well received by educators. Suggestions for other interventions that might be helpful for leaders and policy-makers are provided.” Read the research by Astrid K., MAWULI KOFI TAY, PhD, Lisa Everitt, EdD, Rachel Pagaling, and Dr. Shelly Russell-Mayhew in the journal Healthcare: https://lnkd.in/gAe8Mvti NOTE: Both Astrid Kendrick and Lisa Everitt are Compassionate Leadership Accredited Teachers from the inaugural Teacher Training cohort at the Center for Compassionate Leadership. #compassionfatigue #burnout #compassionateworkplace #wellbeing #compassionateeducation

Practice Matters: Old Friends In the gallery of human relationships, old friends occupy a special section. They may have known us as kids, as we started out together in our first job, or watched us walk down the aisle. Maybe they cried with us in a time of profound loss, or flew 3,000 miles to surprise us at a significant birthday. One day something new is at play. No, it’s not expansion or growth. Or the familiar, comfortable sense of complete trust. At first it’s barely perceptible. Before long, the space holding love between us starts dissolving before our eyes. As the world shifts, so we shift too. Values diverge. False meanings and judgments start to permeate our conversations. Our precious pod of safety is no more. Grieve the loss. Give yourself permission to witness the emotions flowing through you - the pain, anger, sadness, and whatever else arises. Forgive. Compassion for yourself and each other will pull you through. Now see if you can also sense your deep appreciation. Such an important relationship was a gift on your journey, and is forever a part of who you are. When can we practice? Always! #SelfCompassionSaturday: "While self-esteem can fluctuate based on external circumstances, such as professional accomplishments or social validation, self-compassion is about accepting ourselves unconditionally. Whether we fail or succeed, it provides more internal stability because it isn’t tied to external factors." We often respond to challenge with the belief that vulnerability is weakness. Older command and control models of success often include stoic leaders in stuffy suits looking down on others with orders or mandates. These times call for us to shed such old beliefs and embrace our humanity. Compassionate leadership offers us the path to becoming a strong, effective leader through connection and care. https://lnkd.in/ez6tUXZN #vulnerability #compassionateleadership #selfcompassion #connection #humanity #compassionateworkplace #compassionateorganization #compassionateleaders
