BUSY Sisters

Education Administration Programs

Mentoring services to support women in trades.

About us

BUSY Sisters is a mentoring program specifically designed to support and mentor women to be successful in progressing through their non-traditional apprenticeship or traineeship. By non-traditional, we mean any apprenticeship or traineeship pathway in a field that is ordinarily male-dominated. For example, Mechanics, Construction Trades, Engineering, Manufacturing, Agriculture and more. The BUSY Sisters mentoring program is delivered by experienced female tradeswomen who understand the challenges that females entering non-traditional trades face. The support program offers: • An individualised 6-month support plan with weekly contact from your mentor • Resources and information to help you build lifelong workplace skills. • Connection to a community of other women entering non-traditional trades. • Career leadership skills and ability assessment through a world-leading assessment tool, Cognisess.

Passionate about business! Career driven, goal orientated, business woman who is eager to make a difference in this world by helping Not for Profits succeed 📈

🎅🎄Christmas lunch with our local BUSY Sisters team 🎅🎄 It’s always great this time of year to let your hair down and have some laughs with the people who really make a difference for women in trades. Our distant team mates were dearly missed, Zoey Heather & Kathryn Talty hopefully next Christmas we can all be together. I am so proud of this small but oh so mighty passionate team of women who have taken these last 6 months in their stride with changes and growth. I have always been in awe how they are all amazing women who empower each other, see each others strengths as a compliment to theirs and never see each other as competition, you ladies are the real MVP! Merry Christmas to you all and I hope everyone enjoys a much deserved break. Stephanie Gadd Rachael Fisher Kate Shapiro Kahla Smith BUSY At Work - The Apprenticeship Community

NAWIC / BUSY Sisters Tradie Mixer – 14th December, Pimpama, Gold Coast 🎉 On Saturday, 14th December, NAWIC QLD participated in the empowering BUSY Sisters Tradie Mixer event held at Pimpama, Gold Coast. Women in non-traditional trades came together to share experiences, challenges, and success stories. From apprentices to fully qualified tradies, the event provided a fantastic opportunity to connect, learn, and gain invaluable advice from fellow women across a variety of trades. 💪👷♀️ The morning emphasised the power of mentorship, networking, and support in navigating male-dominated industries. A big thank you to everyone who attended – together, we’re breaking down barriers and shaping a stronger, more inclusive construction industry! 🙌 We’re excited to continue pushing forward and empowering more women to succeed in their trades in 2025! 🌟 #WomenInTrades #NAWIC #WomenSupportingWomen #BreakingBarriers #TradesWomen #ConstructionIndustry #GenderEquality #Inclusion #Mentorship #SupportEachOther

Matt and I were fortunate to tour the New Bridgewater Bridge, thanks to the amazing team at McConnell Dowell I thoroughly enjoyed every moment and found the experience incredibly fascinating! A huge thank you to Genevieve Rider, Stephanie Holterhoff, Rosie O’Brien, and Naomi Walker for making this opportunity possible. It was inspiring to learn about the inclusive initiatives for Women at McConnell Dowell.   Special thanks to Steph for sharing your insights and explanations about the environmental aspects of the project—it was fascinating to hear about all the considerations involved.   Congratulations to Naomi Walker, Tiarna Bricknell, Tahlia Bennett, and Steph Holterhoffon receiving awards at the 2024 NAWIC Tasmania Awards for Excellence! What a fantastic achievement for you and McConnell Dowell.   Thank you again, and we look forward to reconnecting in the New Year! BUSY At Work - The Apprenticeship Community BUSY Sisters

Well done Elliouse, so proud of all your achievements. Such an inspiration to other women. I was recently catching up with Elliouse and love hearing about her growth and passion for the industry. 👏 BUSY Sisters

Elliouse, 18, has always loved tinkering with cars. “I grew up tinkering with vehicles with my dad. It created a really strong bond between my dad and I and it was my happy place,” Elliouse said. “I was so proud when we did up the Mitsubishi Triton. It had done a con rod bearing, which caused the piston to hit into the head and damage the valves, so we had to replace the bottom end bearings pistons and get another set of heads. It felt good when we had finished, and we turned the key and it ran. “I was 14 when we did this, and I knew I wanted to be a diesel mechanic when I finished school. “I was 16 and a student at Port Dalrymple School at George Town. We had the opportunity to visit Bell Bay Aluminium as part of the Beacon GrIPP Program. “I have vivid memories of touring the site. It was an eye-opener, just the size of it and to hear about the opportunities was really exciting. “The Beacon experience was the reason why I decided to apply for an apprenticeship position at the smelter. “I saw an opportunity and I thought I should take it. Elliouse began a school-based apprenticeship, which saw her spend four days at school and one day at the smelter. She spent every school holiday working at Bell Bay Aluminium and then at the end of 2023, she started working at the smelter full-time – the day after she finished college. “I am thankful for Beacon and Bell Bay Aluminium for providing a pathway to further education and employment,” Elliouse said. “Working at Bell Bay Aluminium, I have had the opportunity to work on all types of vehicles – hot metal carriers, forklifts, trucks, utes, trailers, and sweepers. “I love coming to work every day and working with the team in the garage, it is a really inclusive team and we have good banter. “In my opinion all students should attend a Beacon GrIPP Program if given the chance, you never know what the outcome might be. Elliouse is now completing the second year of her apprenticeship. Beacon Foundation thanks Bell Bay Aluminium for their ongoing partnership and commitment to deliver more programs like this for the next three years. The renewed support will help us continue delivering more programs, ensuring more young Australians like Elliouse have the aspiration, motivation, and ability to determine their working future. #beaconfoundation #beaconbrighterfutures

Passionate about people, their well-being, and their career success!!

I’m so excited to share a story of empowerment and change! Yesterday, I visited @Fume Garage and met Georgia, a first-year light vehicle mechanic apprentice. What made this visit extra special and worthy of a post you ask? She works in an ALL-female mechanic workshop—something you don’t hear being in a ‘male-dominated trade’! 🤩 Mariah Thiele, the owner, shared her mission to not only inspire women to enter the automotive industry but to create a space where women of all ages and backgrounds feel supported, valued, and empowered as they grow into amazing skilled tradeswomen. @Fume Garage isn’t just a workshop—it’s a movement that’s shattering stereotypes, breaking down barriers, and proving that women have a vital role in every corner of the automotive world. With a clear vision, @Fume Garage is not only shaping the future of the automotive trade but also paving the way for the next generation of women to thrive and leave a lasting impact, all whilst building a powerful presence in every corner of this industry. @Fume Garage and BUSY Sisters are dedicated to empowering and uplifting women, helping them break barriers and succeed in male-dominated trades 💪 🚗 🔧 👩🔧 Check them out 🤩👉 https://lnkd.in/g4XjHEBP #womenintrades #supportingwomen #breakingbarriers

What an incredible night to be a part of and support! BUSY Sisters had the opportunity to connect with employers across a variety of industries and trades, all here to support one another and work towards the goal of increasing the retention of women in male dominated trades 💪👏🤩

NAWIC QLD Female Owned & Led Small Business Networking Event !! ✨👷♀️ Last Friday, the NAWIC QLD Female Owned & Led Small Business Networking Event brought together an inspiring group of women in construction and trades. It was a powerful gathering that united industry professionals and facilitated the reunion of past colleagues, creating a welcoming space for both new connections and the rekindling of old ones. A particularly special moment occurred when two attendees recognised each other after not being in contact for nearly two years. They had worked together in the past and were thrilled to reconnect, showcasing the lasting bonds within the industry. Another noteworthy moment took place when attendees networking with each other recognised women who had inspired them at a previous event years ago and celebrated this by sharing media posts from that event. These moments further emphasised the value of connection and shared experiences 🤝. Throughout the evening, attendees shared their challenges as small business owners and expressed the need for more networking opportunities to combat feelings of isolation. The event underscored the importance of uniting women in the industry to share experiences, offer support, and explore opportunities for growth 🌱. A big thank you to CSQ - Construction Skills Queensland for supporting these events. Without your support, we would not be able to foster these connections and help support the daily challenges faced by female-owned and led small businesses here in QLD. At NAWIC, we’re committed to creating more events that unite women, reunite past connections, and forge new partnerships to empower and drive innovation in the industry. #NAWICQLD #WomenInConstruction #FemaleEntrepreneurs #NetworkingEvent #SmallBusinessSupport #BuildingConnections #WomenSupportingWomen #EmpowerHer #FemaleLeadership #TogetherWeBuild #WomenInTrades #BreakingBarriers #ConstructionCommunity #CSQSupport #StrongerTogether #SharedSuccess
