"I began my journey at BioMed Realty almost 17 and a half years ago. On my first day, I met my then boss at the airport, and together we flew to Seattle, where I took on the responsibility for several development projects, including the company’s first ground-up development, 530 Fairview. Coming from a background in biotech, I found immense satisfaction in knowing that the work I was doing was supporting drug discovery and development that could ultimately help people. The opportunity to provide laboratory and critical infrastructure for BioMed’s tenants resonated deeply with me. Having previously served as a Director of Facilities at both high-tech and biotech companies, I recognized the complexity of building systems needed to support laboratory environments. This experience led me to identify a gap within BioMed. I had a conversation with our CEO at the time, and suggested that he consider establishing a facilities department given the unique nature of our work. From there, things quickly gained momentum. I was asked to meet with the EVP of Operations, and he encouraged me to transition from development to establish the new Facilities organization. The rest, as they say, is history. Over the past 13 years, we’ve built a highly skilled and technically proficient facilities team that has supported our growing portfolio. More importantly, we’ve played an integral role in shaping the infrastructure of the buildings we develop. Our facilities team has forged strong, lasting relationships with our development partners—Salil Payappilly, John Moshy, Sal Zinno, and their teams—who have been instrumental in the design and construction of many projects across our portfolio. Our team has had the privilege of collaborating with a wide range of talented individuals across various functions within BioMed, from leasing and property management to legal, risk, and beyond. These relationships have been key to our collective success. My time at BioMed has provided incredible opportunities for growth and the chance to work with some of the smartest and most collaborative people I’ve encountered throughout my career. BioMed Realty announced today that Bob Nowak has joined the Company as Senior Vice President of Operations for West Coast Markets.   Bob will lead the operations and facilities functions across the West Coast markets, which include San Diego, the San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle and Boulder. He will be based at the Company’s headquarters in San Diego, while reporting to Jon Bergschneider, President of West Coast Markets. Bob said: “I am excited to join BioMed Realty. I share the Company’s commitment to providing the highest level of service critical to the incredibly important work in which our tenants engage across multiple areas of research and innovation. BioMed Realty’s property managers recognize that their role goes beyond providing great lab buildings. They foster work environments that meet and exceed client expectations with curated amenity programs and events that encourage innovation and the exchange of ideas. This month, the BioMed Realty property management teams received several awards from the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA International). At the BOMA San Diego awards ceremony, our Company earned awards for hosting BOMA education events at two San Diego properties – Discover Campus and Moda Sorrento. The events included seminars on emergency preparedness training, women in business, life science educational seminars, and BOMA Education and Foundations courses. BOMA also honored BioMed Realty’s Monique Adley, Director, Operations, as a Rising Star for her role as co-leader of the organization’s Education Committee. The committee decides the topics and formats for the year’s trainings – and with Monique at the helm, many of the sessions focused on the life sciences. All of Monique’s hard work has resulted in greater education and networking opportunities for BOMA’s property managers.   At the BOMA Boston TOBY and Industry Awards, BioMed Realty’s Mary Farley, Assistant Property Manager, received the Larry Lenrow CRE Education Scholarship. The scholarship was created to support the professional development of future leaders.
