Today was the first day of our 2-day R&D Management workshop at University of Sydney. Together with my co-chairs and co-editors Krithika Randhawa & Letizia Mortara, we had a busy week preparing to set up a solid program for the two days. It has been rather smooth sailing, despite some strange accidents such as a crane crashing on a building from where the workshop catering was sourced from... Luckily we were not in the building at the time! We had over 40 participants in a very lively, community-oriented workshop where scholars in various stages of their careers discussed their research. Some of this research hopefully finds its way to the pages of our journal eventually :) In the beginning of the day I held a keynote that outlined our journal's scope in the field of R&D and innovation management, and discussed both the history and the future of our field (based on our recent study: https://lnkd.in/eADGrYZA). To end the first day, we had a panel discussion on "From science to impact", with keynotes from Prof. Sally Davenport MNZM & Prof. Roy Green who discussed the various initiatives and models in which we can ensure making impact as scholars and scientists. Oceanic scholarly community is quite amazing I have to say - Sydney is my third stop after a visit to Melbourne & Auckland. The visit is definitely paying off for me - a whole new landscape has opened up to me both intellectually and concretely. I feel I understand the "down under" context much better than before. Celebrating the Winners of the REEP Case Study Competition! We are excited to share the incredible success of the recent Stockbridge Real Estate Enrichment Program (REEP) Case Study Competition and the celebratory lunch held in honor of our winners by the Stockbridge team. This event underscores the importance of stepping out of one's comfort zone, trying new things, and embracing new experiences, all qualities. These qualities are crucial for our students as they embark on their senior year of high school and prepare for their post-secondary journeys. The Competition The Competition allowed our students to showcase their talents and hard work from what they learned over the past 8 months in the REEP program. The competition was fierce, with participants demonstrating their ideas for the best approach to develop the parcels of land using the real estate concepts they learned throughout the course of the school year. Celebratory Lunch Stockbridge hosted a special luncheon at the conclusion of the case study competition with the Stockbridge mentors, the judges of the case study and the Raising Expectations team at which point, the winning team was announced. Key Takeaways Willingness to Try New Things: Our students stepped out of their comfort zones, embracing new experiences and challenges. Exposure to Commercial Real Estate: Through REEP, students gained valuable insights into the commercial real estate industry, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to pursue career opportunities in this field should they choose to do so. Future Career Opportunities: The program aims to provide a pathway for students to learn about careers in commercial real estate, breaking down barriers and creating new possibilities. We are incredibly proud of all our participants and winners. Their dedication and hard work are truly inspiring, and we look forward to seeing their continued success in the future. Funding sources cover most project costs, including labour, materials, and administration, with a 1:1 match from an outside industry partner (combination of cash and in-kind contribution). We take on the administrative legwork, so the industry partner doesn’t have to apply for or secure their own funding.
