Last Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, our California State University San Marcos campus was delighted to host the California State Student Association (https://lnkd.in/g_p2M2Gv) President Iese Esera. Iese toured our campus alongside our fantastic four ASI Executive Officers (Octavio Martinez, Illeana Carmona Chavez, Ashley Lizarraga and Abigail Elaine Pollard) and visited with several students to get a better sense of the needs and concerns of CSUSM students. Iese connected with our Dean of Students Jason Schreiber and had an insightful conversation about current needs related to policies on campus. Iese ended his visit by connecting with our Vice President of Student Affairs Viridiana Diaz, Ed.D. and sharing all the input he received from students and concerns CSSA will be addressing in the semester ahead. It is estimated that more than 400,000 undocumented students are enrolled in public colleges and universities in the United States (American Immigration Council 2023). On October 14th, Dr.Carolina Valdivia presented her research on Undocumented College Student's Basic Needs. The ASI Cougar Pantry Manager Alondra Lopez had the opportunity to sit on the panel and provide more information about the resources that the ASI Cougar Pantry has to offer to support our students. It has been a busy few weeks for our ASI Board of Directors from attending CSUnity at Cal State San Bernardino with the other CSU campuses, to completing training with the Board team, and then representing ASI at two Convocations - one for faculty & staff and another for new students. The semester has just started and they are ready to make an impact to help serve, engage, and empower the CSUSM students.
