It has been a busy few weeks for our ASI Board of Directors from attending CSUnity at Cal State San Bernardino with the other CSU campuses, to completing training with the Board team, and then representing ASI at two Convocations - one for faculty & staff and another for new students. The semester has just started and they are ready to make an impact to help serve, engage, and empower the CSUSM students.

Students tell us that taking the NCE is one of the most stressful parts of becoming a CRNA. The only thing worse than taking the exam is not passing and feeling overwhelmed and unsure how to move forward. To help students navigate this stressful experience, Valley is now offering our new Mission Critical Program. Any student who failed the NCE after using a different NCE prep provider can sign up for the program. For the discounted price of $500 we will enroll you in a Valley Review Course, including all of Valley's materials, and provide you with a one-on-one academic consultation with our experienced CRNA staff and build a study plan that will set you up for success. You've come so far in your journey to become a CRNA don't let NCE failure stop you, let Valley help you pass on your Mission Critical attempt!

Excited to reshare Silicon Valley Leadership Group member San Jose State University's launch of the Male Educators of Color Initiative (MECI). The emancipatory approach of SJSU Lurie College of Education continues to inspire vital efforts to strengthen the teacher workforce. Thank you Heather Lattimer and Luis Poza for your leadership! Additional context: A diverse educator workforce benefits all students, and boosts the successful engagement of BIPOC students. However, there are not enough diverse candidates in our state’s teaching colleges, and districts across the state have difficulty retaining the teachers they do hire. The result: 77% of California students are Asian American, Black, Latino, and/or Native American, but only 27% of teachers share those demographics. SJSU Lurie College of Education is bucking that trend. Lurie has increased the number of students in its teaching credential programs by over 40 percent in four years, and the entirety of that increase has come from an increase in the numbers of first-generation and BIPOC students. It stands to reason that such an equity-focused institution would launch a timely, necessary initiative like MECI, and I look forward to providing support in any way I can.
So excited to announce the launch of the Male Educators of Color Initiative (MECI) at SJSU Lurie College of Education. This initiative recognizes the critical role of Male Educators of Color in the success of our TK-12 students, families, and communities. The MECI program provides a multifaceted approach to support MECI Fellows as they pursue credentials and begin careers in education. Join us! https://lnkd.in/gUj3KH5e

Yesterday, we saw the official launch of the Association of Colleges EDI Charter at the UK House of Lords. Currently, Milton Keynes College Group and over 50 other colleges are signatories and were represented at this event. Today, as part of the ongoing commitment to the FE sector, the first in a series of virtual Equity Exchanges sessions, we will be discussing and sharing insights from a range of colleges, in response to the riots of this summer. How are we supporting our colleagues and learners to process and respond to these events as they return for the new academic year? What are the priorities as we move forward, to ensure we play our part in creating a curious and positive environment, where differences can co-exist? How can we ensure we are able to keep our learners and colleagues safe and respond proportionately to the challenges that we face? This Equity Exchange is led by colleges and attended by EDI college practitioners. Details in the comments. #EquityExchange #LoveOurColleges #InclusiveFE

The HBdV Fellows introduce themselves. We start with Merle-Sophie Thielmann from the Universität Mannheim. At the #7ECSLHE, I present a seminar concept introducing pre-service teachers to diversity-oriented school improvement processes. Students gained insight into the implementation of these processes during visits to cooperating schools and reflected on their future roles in shaping the schools they will work at. The presentation of the seminar concept is supplemented by qualitative analyses of students' written reflections and group discussions on the potential benefits of service learning in a) addressing the challenges faced by schools in socially disadvantaged areas and b) preparing pre-service teachers for teaching at and shaping schools in increasingly diverse environments.
