Last Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, our California State University San Marcos campus was delighted to host the California State Student Association (https://lnkd.in/g_p2M2Gv) President Iese Esera. Iese toured our campus alongside our fantastic four ASI Executive Officers (Octavio Martinez, Illeana Carmona Chavez, Ashley Lizarraga and Abigail Elaine Pollard) and visited with several students to get a better sense of the needs and concerns of CSUSM students. Iese connected with our Dean of Students Jason Schreiber and had an insightful conversation about current needs related to policies on campus. Iese ended his visit by connecting with our Vice President of Student Affairs Viridiana Diaz, Ed.D. and sharing all the input he received from students and concerns CSSA will be addressing in the semester ahead. Thank you Iese for your visit!

Did you know that Latin America has its very own Ivy League university? 🎓🌎 Recently, the USP - Universidade de São Paulo of São Paulo (#USP) was ranked 8th in the world in visibility, alongside global heavyweights like Harvard, MIT, Oxford, and Stanford. That’s right—USP isn’t just representing Brazil; it’s putting LATAM on the academic world map with style! 🇧🇷 Who says Ivy League vibes only exist in the US? We’ve got our very own "green and yellow Ivy" growing strong here in São Paulo! 🌿📚 I am proud to be an alumna and a recipient of the Entrepreneurs and Innovation Award in 2022 This recognition highlights not only the excellence of USP but also the growing global presence of Latin American education. We’re not just players—we’re top contenders. #USP #HigherEducation #BrazilianExcellence #Top10 #IvyLeagueVibes #LATAMPride

Yesterday Advance HE and Universities UK hosted an online workshop connecting governors, executive and Governance professionals on 'Navigating the Governance and Executive Boundary' as part of our work on Governing and Leading Transformation. We gad fantastic contributions from Association of Heads of University Administration (AHUA) and Committee of University Chairs. I've said this before and will likely say it again; one of the best things about working for a sector agency is being able to connect and facilitate conversations for shared learning between institutions and different stakeholders. A privileged position to be in. As part of the workshop Jan Juillerat expertly steered us through the current context of HE and our understanding if the boundary. We then moved in to fantastic breakout discussions looking at how we would respond to scenarios that many HEIs are facing. We concluded with an expert panel Chaired by Stephanie Harris with insightful guests Wendy Larner, Dorothy Mackenzie, and Amanda Wilcox who were able to share practises from their current and previous institutions within the UK and globally. My own key takeaway is that as universities and the wider HE sector face increasing challenges there is a need for accelerated transformation beyond continual improvement. The Governing Body needs to be heavily engaged, hold executive accountabe but also allow Exec the space to lead. Governors bring a great deal of skills and expertise which should be drawn upon, but must also know when to step back. HE must transform to become sustainable and meet needs of society. The traditional governance and executive boundary needs to become more fluid and instead guided by principles that work within each institutions own context - more a framework than a hard line. Finally, thanks to the people in the background who make these events happen. Laura Willman Shelley Ramsey Jake Truman and Nina Langlie were all vital in the success of this event.

Breaking the Mold: Harvard Admits German Heiress with 540 GMAT!! The individual who gained admission to Harvard Business School (HBS) with a 540 GMAT score is reported to be: -German -A woman -Heiress one of the wealthiest families in Germany This case emphasizes the ongoing debate between heritage and meritocracy in elite admissions. While HBS typically upholds a high academic standard (median GMAT 740), the holistic admissions process can account for a wide array of factors beyond standardized test scores. Leadership, unique personal backgrounds, and professional experiences often carry substantial weight, allowing candidates with lower test scores to be admitted if they bring other extraordinary qualifications. In this instance, wealth and influence may have played a role in securing admission despite a ..... 540 GMAT Dr Huber +33 7 50 57 84 44

We made it into the student council! Leadership can be seen as a chain of embarrassing events and your reaction to them. And there were plenty this campaign: - Going class to class to pitch is nerve-wrecking - Students smirking at me(maybe I am that funny) - Literally stopping people in the corridor and them circling around me - Going public and facing the consequences in a public manner But "embarrassment is the cost to entry". I see the above processes as constructive for what I will do in life, because it amounts to over 1k cold approaches/calls. I honed my selling skills. And of course, you can only sell convincingly if you believe in the product. In this case, it was me. Looking ahead, I will represent students by listening to their problems and feedback, hoping to integrate the input into the Faculty of Science (BETA). This is where the actual leadership comes into play. SRVU Studentenbond is the association who backed me, together with our members: Sylke van Kempen, Bart Dylan Verkerk, Yannick, Berfin Baran, Noah Chan whose efforts did not go unnoticed. Same goes for the members of the previous board of FSR. Aziza Filal, Yusuf Ziya Yokus, Derk Beemer, @David Congratulations! Let's use our positions to make a difference in Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam). Let's see where this path leads us, what problems we encounter and the solutions we find.
