One of the most impactful elements of an asset's success is still managed the old-fashioned way—with marker and board. Across the industry, you'll find the same thing: That big, functional, and well-loved make-ready board hanging on the wall. For a while, this amazed me. How could an industry as advanced as ours still rely on something so... archaic? We decided to reinvent the wheel. Early on, we launched a digital make-ready board that we believed made more sense than the traditional marker board (similar to some other digital solutions). But adoption didn’t meet expectations. So, we did our homework. What we found was simple: The marker board just works. Its simplicity and ability to visually organize information make it the go-to tool for managing the make-ready process. No wonder the most common “digital” alternative is an Excel or Google Sheet. We went back to the drawing board and reimagined our make-ready board. This time, we embraced what works. We designed it to look and feel just like the familiar marker board everyone loves—then took it to the next level with technology. Real-time updates: Integrated with the PMS to always stay current with units on notice, move-in/move-out dates, and more. Auto-populated columns: Days vacant, market rate, new/old resident info, floor plan details, and beyond. Custom columns: Dropdowns, checkboxes, date fields, monetary fields—you name it. Calendar and map views: Visualize your make-ready process in a way never thought possible. With these improvements, adoption skyrocketed! 🚀 The other day, a client sent me a photo of a marker board at one of their properties... completely erased shortly after launching AppWork.
