In honor of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, AIG celebrates colleagues like Alex Gibson, whose dedication and resilience reminds us why AIG values professionals of all abilities. As EMEA Senior Capital Modeler based in London, Alex develops critical tools that help businesses and other organizations evaluate potential risks under various economic scenarios. In 2018, Alex was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND), also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive condition that compromises his motor skills, including walking and speaking. While adjusting to this life-altering disease, Alex found inspiration to support others going through the same diagnosis and founded Challenging MND, a charity that aims to support and enhance the lives of people in the UK’s MND community. “One of my goals is helping others with MND have the opportunity to create lasting memories for themselves and their families,” Alex says. A lifelong athlete, Alex participates in two or three physical challenges each year for Challenging MND, which has helped raise over £2 million to date. Among Alex’s feats were walking over 100 miles in one weekend, lifting over one million kilograms in one day, and most recently in September, swimming the length of the UK’s Lake Windermere in two days. AIG has stood by Alex during his six-year journey with MND, providing workplace accommodations as his disease progresses and sponsoring his nonprofit’s events, as well as matching colleagues’ donations 2:1 through the AIG Matching Grants Program. “I am deeply grateful to AIG and my colleagues for their unwavering support over the years,” Alex shares. “Their encouragement has allowed me to embrace my abilities and continue functioning at my best despite the challenges.” #AIGAllies

On this #GivingTuesday, AIG highlights the generosity of our broker partners at Marsh, Aon and WTW, who recently joined AIG’s Chicago Women’s Employee Resource Group to host a panel discussion and networking event for clients of Dress for Success Greater Chicago, a nonprofit that provides women with professional attire and other support aimed at helping them achieve economic independence. Alongside our broker partners, AIG colleagues offered participants networking tips, mentorship, and other career-building opportunities to help them start or build a career in the insurance industry: “The event was one of many ways AIG colleagues volunteer and give back to communities throughout the year, and we’re very proud to do so with partners like Marsh, Aon and WTW that share one of AIG’s core values of Being an Ally,” said Natalia Donohue, AIG Distribution Marketing Assistant and Chicago Women's ERG President.

AIG’s Allison Cooper and Rita Perez recently invited broker partners to our Annual D&O Debate at our Midtown Manhattan office, where guest speakers and attorneys, Matthew Solum and Joe White, shared their insights behind the trends in securities class actions and derivative claims as well as regulatory investigations, which can increase the complexity, duration and costs associated with D&O loss. The panelists also discussed key carrier, defense, and coverage qualities that brokers should highlight for clients as they navigate the increasingly complex risk environment for directors and officers of publicly traded companies.

In honor of U.S. #VeteransDay, AIG celebrates those who served their country, including Kyle Black, who helps oversee the security of AIG’s infrastructure and data, helping to keep our systems running efficiently. As a Privileged Access Service Owner in AIG’s Advanced Technology Delivery Group, Kyle uses the IT and cybersecurity experience he developed during his career and serving as a U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Second Class. Looking back at his military service, Kyle reflects on three key leadership lessons that have shaped his career, including his role today: Be a team player. In the military, Kyle learned the value of teamwork working for the National Security Agency, where he collaborated with fellow service members to assess threats, manage risks and implement defensive measures. At AIG, Kyle leads cybersecurity operations with the same team-oriented approach: “Efficiently managing cybersecurity projects involves serving as a liaison between business stakeholders, technical teams, and third-party vendors. Strong leadership is vital in coordinating these efforts and ensuring security measures align with business goals.” Communicate effectively. In military operations, Kyle recalls, clear, concise and direct communication was highly valued, as misunderstandings could have serious consequences. Kyle has carried these attributes with him, including at AIG, as he leads communications across diverse groups on the processes and protocols of safeguarding user access security. “In the service, we were taught the importance of conveying your message accurately the first time. Communicating clearly is just as significant in the corporate world, leading to more efficient workflows and stronger team collaboration.” Lead with confidence. Kyle recognizes that leadership traits he developed in the U.S. Coast Guard serve as a valuable asset in the corporate environment. “In the military, leadership training starts from day one, guided by principles of discipline, teamwork and accountability. This mindset becomes ingrained, forming the foundation for effective leadership and confidence in pursuing civilian career goals.”

Recently, AIG cybersecurity leaders Roshan Navagamuwa, Tracie Grella and Kelvin Garrahan hosted a panel discussion with U.S. government partners about topics such as the evolving nature of online social engineering tactics and deepfake technologies, and their impacts on individuals. Such risks make individuals both the greatest vulnerability and the strongest defense against cyber-attacks, which is why it’s increasingly important for organizations not only to be aware of the potential threats, but also to proactively manage the risks. “The insurance industry is in a unique position because we gain real-time insights into cybersecurity events through our claims and forensic partners,” Tracie explained. “AIG partners with U.S. government agencies to share the most effective security controls to prevent future attacks and by encouraging our clients to implement them—contributing to a more secure, resilient cyber environment.”
