My three easy questions that help me to decide- 1. Is it having serious impact on students' learning or their safety? 2. Is it something that needs my attention to restore culture of the place? 3. Is it about someone's well being over any other task? What you can't do because of the above 3, you must delegate with a briefing.

Approach the competing deadlines based upon magnitude of impact to human beings. When I say impact, I mean real impact to their systems on or around the deadline. Prioritize those decisions that have the biggest impact to the most humans first, be it teachers or students. Then, prioritize the remaining deadlines in order of descending magnitude. As an educational leader, you have to remember that you are in the business of serving humans. Systems, reports, and audits can be de-prioritized when humans need your attention.

I go by the rule that "anything urgent n important should be prioritised over something that's urgent but not so important". For instance paying your monthly bills before deadline is urgent but not as important as reaching the airport on time. Academically speaking, everyday brings in new challenges, tasks n deadlines and I choose my priority list based on each task and its overall impact on the team n our working. First things to be picked up are the ones that are most important as well as urgent.
