First, understand Takt time, which is the rate at which you must produce in order to meet customer demand. Create a value stream map to understand your production lead time and how it compares to customer requirements. The value stream map will reveal opportunities for Kaizen where you can improve your lead time. Determine if this product should be “make to stock” or “make to order”? If customer leadtimes are shorter than your manufacturing leadtimes, consider maintaining some level of inventory to meet quick turnaround orders until your Kaizen efforts reduce your process leadtimes down to customer expectations.

Tight production deadlines are always good for setting up and maturing world class operations. Good problem to have. - Set up a very clear communication with the shop floor team, including materials team. - Divide the targets into shift and then hourly targets. The targets should be realistic and achievable. - If the targets are unrealistic and cannot be met due to capacity constraints , communicate it back to customers in advance at the time of commitment. - Set up system so that every hour Plan Vs Actual is measured, monitored, reviewed. - If the hourly target is achieved, celebrate, appreciate. - Pull the production, do not push. Teams can do it and every team love challenges as long as those are realistic.

Planning and Communication what does "tight" mean? Production: should be planned and ideally at full capacity accommodating down time, maintenance, setup etc. Communication: All Actors should be informed and committed to their deliverables. Any uncertainty should be calculated and communicated.

The run of the mill answer is to plan and prioritize, however, that's not the complete answer. Work breakdown .... find out bottle neck and work solely on that to save energy and precious time.

When we know the production deadlines, need to - Maximize the utilization of available resources (Man & machine) - Cascade communication till working level to have clear targets in mind - Address known breakdown proactively. - Reduce variant/model changeovers to avoid interruptions - Reduce bottleneck cycle time inorder to improve output/hr These strategies will help us to meet production deadline at ease.
