In my experience, the best way to balance innovation and standard production is to have a clear roadmap that aligns with the company's strategic goals. Within the road map, you can plan for what innovations your going to make, prioritize them and align teams with the project work for introduction into the manufacturing space. The scale varies, but having prioritization and focus on these key developments allows the appropriate cross functional resources to be available for adoption and implementation. Another key is to fail fast and know your moving toward a viable product/idea prior to capital expenditure, new processes, etc. This learning can be done in house or external and introduced at the right time agreed upon by the team.

From my previous experience i think we should use and analyze production and sales data and look for areas that needs improvement and look for NPD, and along the way provide ongoing training for employees in both engineering and production areas to ensure they understand emerging technologies and can effectively integrate them into their work and equip team with change management skills
